I have a 87 k30 crew cab 4x4 frame and behind the cab there is a lot of pitting and heavy rust what do you think the best way to repair this is? I was thinking of running a plate on the inside of the frame any other ideas out there? Thanks

Looks fine to me.

Cali guys would call it scrap. But Its nothing like bretts rig he just linked.

I second the wire wheel and paint it up good. And run it.

Four inch grinder with a braided wire wheel and a needle scaler to get into the nooks and crannies. Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer, Valspar Tractor and Implement Paint with hardener added. All brushed on. Looks good, we'll see how she looks in the spring.

I guess mine is not too bad at all I still might box the frame while everything in torn off it would be a whole lot easier now thanks guys for the guidance

I built an 80 k20 that was somewhere between yours and stews for condition, I scaled and wire wheeled the frame then put por 15 on, over 10 years ago. I daily drove and hauled for 6 - 7 years before it became a mud only truck. Its been jumped and pounded enough to be bending rims, you will be totally fine

Great job, looks good!:waytogo:

I've found that the amount of metal consumed to create scale is a small fraction of the size of the scale, to the point of alarming. In other words, if you find a piece of scale, knock it off and have the remaining crater. The crater left (metal consumed in oxidation) may only be 1/3, or less, of the size of the scale. I don't know the exact amount but it is far less than 1:1.
