has a tbi bbc. that i am trying to get to run. th400/205 4.56 gears and locked rear. gov lock i guess. i was told only cucvs got lockers in the rear. being that its fully loaded, i am being told its rare?? i dant see why tho?? so is it true? i would think many are were made. has low miles on it too. been sitting, for how old it is its in great shape.

thanks

Is it a SRW? If so it is prolly a gov-loc. With CUCVs it is not the fact they have a locker it is the fact it is a detroit in a 14FF.

If you have a DRW it is more than likely a loc-right in a Dana 70HD.

For it to be in good shape I would say it is fairy rare. Most people that bought trucks then didn't opt for the creature comforts, like they do now. If you bought a one ton, you planned on working it.

its a srw. 56k no rust, it was stored inside. good to know. just need to get it running.

when i get a camera i will have pics. might keep it. might sell it. see how it goes

I think what is rare is the BBC in a K30. I always thought that the BBC was only offered in 2wd up until 89 or something like that.

The BBC was an option, however less common than the SBC. My '91 cc has the BBC also.

Really need to hear from thatK30guy, or rjfguitar to respond, they would know how rare they are.

I wouldnt say its too rare, lots of horsemen (rodeo types) got fully loaded 1 tons in the 80s. The 1985 SRW K35 GMC I got my axles trans and x-case(all went into my 85 K5) was fully loaded power everything, 454, SM465, NP205, D60, 14BFF. Actualy I hadnt thought about that till just now.........that truck was optioned out but still had a standard trans.....musta been ordered specificaly that way. Anyway the body was WELL abused and rusted on that truck and there was an issue with the title. Something about his sister in TX had it or some crap. I told him I was parting it out anyway and not to worry about a title.

All said though, today they are alot more rare than they used to be. Or at least harder to find in decent condition. I vote ya keep it, if its in realy good shape do a resto mod on it.

I actually have three of them they are fully optioned and big blocks. My buddy in central washington has had about four of them the same way. Just my two cents.

You guys in WA seem to have the market cornered, especially on the Crew Cabs. I have seen so many for sale in your area, way more than anywere else. It is so bad I flew there & drove back 2300 freaking miles to get mine.

will try for pics. i need a new camers sooner or later anyway. still cant get it to run, will be working on it today for a bit

Not considered a rare find but definetely a damn good find that is not very common ( if that makes sense ).
Any K-30, pre-independent front, was most likely bought to work hard as said earlier so it would be a nice truck to have no doubt.
As for the BBC's only offered in 2WD's that was on the K-20 stuff ( no BBC for 4WD's ) until the round body style trucks came out. A K-30 offered a BBC as an option in most years ( I think it was abscent on 4WD's in 1981,1982 for some reason ) of production.

I had a 1983 GMC K-3500 Crew-Cab Dually with a 454/465-205 and 4.56's . It was a brute ! I wish I hadn't have turned it into an off-road toy - it would have been a great back up truck to have as a tow vehicle.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't an '87 be carburated? If so, then it might have been swapped.

87 was the first year for TBI but soome still came with a Q-jet up until 1988. The only 87,88 models that I have ever seen with a Q-jet were 454's .
