87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

huh, so I'm over fartin around on Warn's site trying to decide on a winch for under Mutt's tubebed, and I come across what maybe a solution to my front winch handle dilemna I never got around to figuring out on the K5..

never saw these before..

I'll have to eyeball that further and see if I think that'll work up front in some way with my bumper/grill setup... you can vary the length with different threaded rod too...

as some may remember, it was suggested that this original position might pose some issues.. :doah: :haha:

I had planned on doing some sort of pivot gig like this anyway, and getting the lever above the bumper, coming up between the 2 filters... something like this..

maybe this'll help do that... could also possibly be a help doing the rear winch bumper too if I like the way it works up front..

Now that is pretty cool Paul. I never seen the front freespool lever that you made, but that's where I'm at. I had either figured on making something like what you did out the front bumper with a removable lever or just like the pic that you posted.

I kinda figured that I was going to need to make some kind of steering shaft with a Borgeson universal joint to bring it back into the cab. I'm stuck with the lever coming out the front or bottom with the way that it needs to mount.

Good pic of what I had in my little brain, thanks :thumb:

yeah, I don't see a pdf for that one with specs.. usually Warns good about that..

sheesh, the damn things $190...... :doah:

maybe I'll go back to the "hunt around McMaster Bible for sleeves and delrin bushings, etc and fab my own" approach I was originally gonna take... :haha:

I'm not sure that setup would be bolt in for me, I have to go look.. it may put the handle behind the grill.. which may not be a horrible thing.. tho I'd have to do some sort of window in the grill with a round rod frame..

thank ya sir! :D

anyone who hasn't voted for something in the new poll, please do.. I really appreciate your opinions!

Had to pic them all...what don`t I like the best! :dunno:
Everything is well thought out custom, functional and bad ass! :waytogo:

thanks bud... it's interesting for me to watch the numbers.. my poor heater box doesn't get much love.. :haha:

as would be expected, not being as over the top as some of the other stuff..

it's good to be back working on it... was thinking of pulling the trigger today on the cowl gauges, but I'm jonesing to get a tube order instead... ;)

Do you oversize the lines to side-step friction issues, or is that not a concern?

While having the filters in a central location is both aesthetic and convenient, it has to require a decent amount of additional hose.

not sure what you mean by "friction" issues.... flow and gph would be the concern with an undersized line or fitting... and no, I'm not concerned in the slightest, #6 on the trans and ps, #10 on the engine oil...

and I'm certainly not gonna sweat buying some extra hose on this rig.... those locations are not out of the ordinary, factory oil coolers are up front... auto trans runs up front to the rad anyway.. factory ps coolers/systems are up front..

this is nothing new...

I should have probably prefaced that statement by denoting that I was asking a question, not criticizing.

I struggled with whether or not I should buy larger hose for my oil coolers (since I had plenty of AN6 left and the stuff isnt cheap), and ended up moving up to 8 or 10. I was curious if this is something that serious builders concern themselves about or is it more of a CYA tactic by tranny and engine manufactures.

I have been doing a decent amount of friction calcs for this downdraft table I am building, plus fluid flow in pipes is a large part of my job. All of the literature I have read regarding coolers simply says you need this size for this cooler, etc. Does not take into consideration line length, bends, # of fittings, etc. Without taking pressure measurements at entry and exits, there really is no way to know. Which is why I decided to play it safe, bite the bullet and buy the bigger tube.

well, sure, bigger is always better... ;)

I don't get too fancy with all that engineering type stuff, PM Greg for those details! :haha:

I always like to see 10 on wet sump eng oil.. dry sump, 12..

and 6 is bigger than any factory trans lines, so I always figure if I'm going larger than stock, I should be good...

Ryoken's Lab™ mod of the week... :pimp:

scratch and dent, $400 for the pair... :pimp: no more hunting rolls of qrters to use the machines at the marina! :woot: :haha:

I was getting fed up with it.. :haha: during the summer it wouldn't have been a big deal, but I go thru TONS of clothes all winter... huge amounts of laundry..

but the biggest hassle was getting qrters, many stores get annoyed when ya try to buy rolls from em....

now I can get back to buying truck parts and tools... next check is a blast cabinet kit and primer and paint for the K5.. than the next check I'll get a tube order in...

Add page numbers so we can go back and review. I'm too lazy to go through 163 pages.... But I will say this I don't think there's anything you've done on this rig over the years that I haven't liked. :waytogo:

That wouldn't work well, I'm on page 490....

Did you realize that this thread has had 3/4's of a MILLION views. only other threads I could find that came close (only searched back the 19 pages of new posts) is the "introductions & greetings" thread at 1/2 a mill. and a near tie between the "Urban cammo "88 k5" and "Shawns driveway of despair n repair" at a 1/4 mill a piece

Congratulations:thumb:

thanks... :D Greg's is at about 350... gonna work on it today... hopefully the rig'll be close to usable by the time it get's to a million.... :doah: :haha:
