87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Well I just broke down and spent the last couple of hours reading all 84 pages of awesomeness. I have got to say that you have some amazing fab skills. Can't wait to see the "finished" product roll out:D

me too... :wink1: I'm trying to be pretty diligent labor-wise.. It all boils down to how long it's gonna take me to raise another 5 g's or so to buy the rest of what I need... I'm shooting for Labor Day.... :doah:

it actually looks now like I'll be building the rear winch bumper before it leaves too.. I'll have some tube leftover from the cage, and I already have a 12 k Ramsey for it...

and thanks man.....

It feels good when mods/etc you think would be cool, are appreciated and people are into.. hopefully I've given you guys some different ideas ..

I have definitely gotten some ideas!

I know what it's like to have a deadline and be tight on funds at the same time. This is my senior year, and I want to take my own ride to prom (April 4th). Lots to do before then though, we'll see if it works out.

btw...love that copper color

Man I just scanned over your entire build again and I have got to say that this rig is going to be the poopy. I would be afraid to drive it! It is way to nice! BTW: Let me know how that bender works out as I am in the market. How much did it cost?

I can't wait to get it in the woods and flog it! :haha:

$810 for the HD package with 2" die shipped.. http://www.pro-tools.com/105.htm

it's such a tease having no tube for it... :doah::(

fairlead hardware... 1/2" fine, allen cap screws...

I'll do the top row of countersunks when I get the top tube in, and corresponding upper mounting strip...

Paul, just some rambling thoughts knocking about in my brain while reading this.
I realize your capscrews aren't in a high tensile strength situation on the fairlead, but was wondering about the strength of them, being the inner opening for the hexhead removes so much material from the head of the bolt. Are they rated grade 5 or what?
Same question about the countersunks?

Keep up the great work Paul.

egggggcellent question!

They are both 18-8 stainless.. 70,000 psi... little less than a grade 5 iirc...

that being said, I wasn't concerned... neither app imo, has much of a chance of failing.. the fairlead moreso than the skid, maybe in some extreme, side-pull kinda situation...

I did up the fairlead mounts from 7/16 to the 1/2"ers tho by enlarging the holes, just to be a little beefier...

it was worth the risk to me to go stainless with how they are going to be unpainted..

and as for cap screw vs hexhead strength, not sure there'd be a dif.. the bolt is the same size, and the flange part of a hex head is actually less mating surface than the cap screw.. dun know...

hey Vin... :D

yeah that Keystone place For Mud put up for me earlier has awesome prices... Marmon/Keystone (302)328-8000 in delaware..

2" .120 was under $3 a foot.. plus if i wasn't mistaken, truck freight was VERY reasonable for my order, like $100 and change or something, shipped to my work.. not worth my time or gas for that... plus i'm not sure how i'd transport 20's....

I'm doing an order next thurs, and having it shipped to work if i wasn't mistaken on the shipping price... prolly doing 5 or 6 sticks of 2', and I may even go for some 1.75, even tho i dont have that die yet, if it helps the price out...

I'd gladly put you in, I just dont know the logistics of it.. how much we would save, what it'd be worth to pick it up here, or if you'd be better off just doing your own order and picking it up in delaware (heck, that'd prolly be closer than coming to the jersey shore), etc, etc...

pm me and maybe we can work it out... For Mud wanted a couple sticks too.. i'm just not sure how well that'd all go over.. one part of the orders getting picked up, one getting shipped to trenton and one shipped to the jersey shore.. :o

on a build related note....

i polished up the following block for the bender.. Thanks for the tip Greg! amazing how much smoothin it needed once i started...

some decent labor lately, nothing too worthy of photos, but I should have a good pic whore update within a week or so... :wink1:

Thanks for the info...
I'll give them a call.
Having my own order shipped to my work would probably make sense.

ok, I'm bored....

I was gonna hold off a few days, but I'll post a little something... the next couple months there's gonna be tons of updating going on, so I may as well get started...

tube is coming tomorrow... 5 sticks of 2' .120 DOM, 1 of 1.75, and 1 of 1.5..... $675 to my door, I was pretty content with that...

got my seats from PRP yesterday, finally.. I gotta say, for as much as they annoyed me as a company to deal with, I'm that impressed with the seats.. especially the options I chose... the xtra wide was a no-brainer for my fatarse, but I'm soooooo glad I got the 4" extra tall... gonna run that retractable Corbeau setup in black with em..

it took em like 8, 9 weeks to get me what I originally ordered, but I'm seriously stoked on em.. the crappy, "clean my lense, please" pic doesn't do em justice... the orange shows way way dark.. they're chevy orange, tho they look red in the pic... I'll have to take a pic out in the sun this weekend.... black tweed centers, vinyl everything else...

seatsblock004.jpg

I'm gonna reshoot my dif covers, shackles, etc in a slightly darker orange to match the seats, and make them a little less "lava-like".... :wink1: plus the drivetrain will be shot in the same orange, so a little more "standard chevy orange" will be best..

also the only other interior piece in the chevy orange will be the cage... with black padding...

I will be maintaining the factory dash pad with the cage coming thru, my bezel, the copper on the dash, gauges.. the new console for the twin stick, ACarr, E-break and LCD megasquirt will be in black.. once again, the composite glass, but a whole new, late-model design...

think it should be a pretty trick looking interior when done, little bit of color and lots of black... lower 1/2 herced.. also the overhead console with be in black composite..

more this weekend..... :D

I'm not afraid!!??!!!!!?!! :haha:

I've got the Pro Tools 4' handle and a 6' pipe that works perfect as an extension on that... eventually I'll stop in my buds shop and get a heavy wall 1' x 3' in whatever length I find I need...

I'm more worried about room... I know whats gonna happen, the trucks gonna be in the way... if need be, I have 8 casters to mount under the 2 sawhorses, so I can roll the tub around.. I can see that as tomorrows project... :doah:

I should be doing some first bends this evening... :saweet::saweet::saweet:

well I guess the 70K tensile strength should handle whatever you can throw at it, any idea on shear strength?
cool stuff bud.
