87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

thanks man.... it makes it all the more better that you guys dig it... It's nice to see the pic in my head coming to life...

definitely have a few more interesting details up my sleeve too.... :wink1:

one thing for sure, I am NEVER lacking on labor to do... the list is just stupid long...

sometimes i get delayed waiting on parts *coughNWFagaincough*, or it's money, but I'm generally bringing at least a 1/2 dozen projects thru completion at once..

even at that.. alot of the mods will be getting their final touchs when the truck is drivable... like the black edge-quard stuff around the panels..

ok... you guys can help me out here, design-wise.... most have seen the e-box lid in smoked lexan

and it's getting these latches

same over the breaker box...

opinions on whether i should do the lockable compartment door in the console in the same black composite as the rest of the panel... or I could carry over the smoked lexan gig?

eh, actually, I just answered it myself i think, probably not a good idea to be somewhat translucent with a wallet in there... :doah:

Agreed, go composite panel or metal for the lockable console door.

Then again, lights through that smoked cover would look cool, like R2D2 was in there or something. There's gotta be another place to hid your wallet!

yup, same black composite for the compartment then....

I'll have enough R2D2 with the routered design, lighted colored lexan logo/composite front for the PC. ;) can't wait to play with that... item #91

one of the most annoying sounds ever, a router cutting this composite! :haha:

Have you ever cut sheet metal with a circular sawblade in backwards.....when I built a pole barn the dude helping me showed me how he did it....OMG....I couldn't plug my ears fast enough.:eek1:

I bet that screams... the 2 loudest jobs I've ever done are, jackhammering concrete out of a mixer barrel and gel-planing boat bottoms... both are pretty torturous... physically and volumetrically... :haha:

there's your $8 made up word of the day.... :wink1:

oh, and a semi-amusing build note I realized the other night...

the only factory wiring I'm leaving in the truck is the steering column..... :wink1:

I'll give the GM engineers that one.... :wink1:

anyone have a suggestion for the PC window? :ears:

keep in mind, simple is good... got a couple ideas kicking around my knoggin on it... right now some of the contenders are some sort of distorted fallout window...

maybe a flame gig... could do a GM logo of sorts....

eh, by the time i get to that, it'll be my birfday again.... :haha::doah::o

doh!!!! :doah:

and yes, all the switches have a purpose, just not all will be utilized right away.... :wink1:

pretty slick.. i like those switches.. i got them too....
im not into the multi color switch look though.. but that is my thing.. that one looks nice..

i too am going to have multiple purposes..... front bumper lights, rollbar lights, rear winch (momentary style up and down)

i bought the switches, tool, rockers, case and even the plug that you use on the back and terminals!!!!!!!

no hijack..... I originally ran all black in the dash.... that was different with only five... now with 16 in the overhead alone, i figured let me at least make an attempt at making them MORE distinguishable... they will be labeled, and obviously i know which are which, but breaking them up with gray and red definitely makes it easier to pick out at a glance...

thats the nice thing about the Contura's, with the tool (even without), i can change em in an instant.. which i may once i start driving the truck... I'm also running the plugs in the back of these...

there's no way for me to window cut the zombie logo... i could do some sort of elongated CK5 thing....

but does anyone know what this sticker/decal process or "color" is?

my buddy made this for me years ago for my gaming rig.. has that "sandblasted" look... it's stuck to the inside of the glass.. it was a dry transfer style iirc...

was thinking the Zombie Squad done in that in a larger window could be cool... i still wanna have some composite around the edges for the countersinks, just overall toughness, more of a detailed look than just a full piece of lexan, etc... maybe done in some pattern at the lexan/composite inlay edge all the way around...

wish MRK5 read this thread... I'll have to put a PM in to him, see if that sticker would be doable... it needs to adhere on the inside...

It looks like etch lite vinyl, It can be cut out either way so it can go on the inside or out.

Or you could use the Zombie Squad sticker as a mask and "frost" the rest.

BTW Rufus, I think it was Artzner that came up with the Zombie Squad design.

yup, definitely a possibility... after looking at it today, I've decided to make the lexan a door, actually I'm thinking of making it polycarbonate... with the composite border/frame... I have a good idea for it...

that'll give me access to that compartment without tools too.... also the ability to mount a DVD drive at the bottom of the border...

got a fair amount of stuff done today.... my seat belt tabs made and tacked in.. also the grab handles... I'll finish welding them all up tonight... maybe some pics tomorrow night after my b-day party......
