87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

well, my biggest issue is Jersey smog nazi's.... I definitely need to run a cat... i take it your not running one?

i'd be just fine running duals to ease keeping it simple and tight, but i have to run single out... pics'd be great if ya get a chance...

No problem, I will be under it this weekend. Do you need to run a single cat, or can you do dual cats on each pipe? If you could run two compact high flow cats and still maintain the duals to the muffler it might work well. I just didn't like the idea of having the exhaust cross under the trans inspection cover because it would be in harms way. Far too easy to hit it in that position, so I worked with my shop to get it the way it is.

Here is a couple shots to kinda show the way they did it:

Here you can see how they brought it across and into the muffler. If I had to run cats I would have had them put further up and run the compact units to keep it clean and safe.

I will try to get better pics this weekend while I am pulling the trans out.

I really like my Thorley tri-y headers. I got the ceramic coated ones and they have held up very well for the last 3 years or so. I ran dual exhaust, not single though.

from what I've seen, they hang at the same spot as any other full length header...

my biggest concern is running them into a 3" single.... I still need to lay under the truck with a beer and see how/if I can build a y-pipe of sorts with a full length header...... if i determine it really is a prob, i'll be going with a tri-y Thorley...

I had hooker super comp headers with duals on mine, dual small cats in the factory location on one side and one in the same location on the other side. Just had to make a heat shield for that side. I don't see why you cann't do that and go in to one muffler, then out with a single pipe.

yeah, i just wonder the "legality" of the dual cat... I have an awesome exhaust guy, he'll let me know my best approach and hook me up good... I'd love to run dual hi-flo's then bring em together back behind the transfer case kinda like lectric's....

got conned into working saturday... so dungeon time will be limited this weekend, but the OT will help out the parts train...

yeah, thorley has a y-pipe setup for there's.. which would make running single exhaust easy.. tho the y hangs down a bit...

you didn't happen to get the A.I.R version did you? i'm trying to remember if there's was the cool, 1 bung per side gig, or the ghey 4 tube per side ones i've seen.. i wont run the 4 tube ones, too many failure points, and stupid looking...

well, this has been a rough start to my day off.... my capabilities have been really restricted since the air blew up.... was really relying on my chopsaw for a bunch of stuff.. well, it looks like I need a homo depot run, down to my last blade and it's 1/2 gone... :( need cutoff wheels too...

now to top it off, I just broke my vise in 1/2.......

more minor buying mistakes too.... I had a feeling I was gonna have to chop up/modify my new tranny mounts.... it's working out good, but in retrospect, i shoulda just bought the black ones... woulda looked better at the cuts... eh, I'll just douche em in some black...

Looks like you need to be a little easier on you tools. :haha:Good luck today.

new modified mount and saddle next to unmolested one...

that mount plate will have an angled gusset at each end and one in the middle between the mounts... the skid plate will be mounted to the bottom of that 2 x 2, covering the lower mounts and bolts...

Are you going to make a high mount to support the tail of the transmission? How about the tail of the NP205? I've seen & heard about a LOT of tailhousings (or bellhousings!!) breaking because of the weight of the 205.

Just curious.

Later,
Buddy

there's no problems w/ dual cats. i've been running them for years and never had a problem w/ inspections. 2.5" pipe through hi flo cats, magnaflows and out the side behind the wheel wells

yeah, I'm doing a single mount on the 205.... I know sorta how i'm doing it, but as most things, I'll finalize the details when i start fabbing it... don't even have the actual mount at this point..

but it'll be a little bit before i get to it... just finishing up the front part of x-member is gonna take some time... i'll bang the mount gusseting out tonight/tomorrow... but this weekend i'll start on the frame hanger/bushing for that front 2 x 2.... THAT is gonna be a slow process...

was that a single out exhaust originally? I've heard thats a big no-no in joysey.. running duals, when it came with single...

i'd just as soon run dual hi-flows, mags, dual out... it'd make it easier imo, tho a bit more parts coin than single...
