87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

you know me, caviar taste on a tunafish budget.... :wink1:

it was a big investment for me... a $4, 500 part, i can sneak in on most weeks, $1400 was a big deal... even knowing i was gonna buy it and preparing for it financially for a month or so, it's still got my finances a little screwy right now... gonna take me a month to get back on track...

but i'm really glad I stepped up and bought something that should be plenty for the rest of my life... piece of mind and all that...

Its always easier to justify buying tools than anything else, at least for me anyways. Im sure many others here agree.

some old farmers just run a new car muffler on the inlet side for less noise also. grab a muffler for like a ford festiva or geo metro. should be just the right size.

just for the record...

this compressor just absolutely kills it.... it's not loud at all... and holy yit, talk about air.... :eek1: I just spent 30 to 40 minutes with a 3' brakeline/blowgun blowing out the dungeon nonstop... disconnected the blowgun, the compressor ran for about 1 minute and cycled off.... freakin sweet.... very happy with my decision...

on a build note.... nothing new and exciting, been working on the ds fender sectioning and slider.....fair amount to do still, but I'm anxious to get that done as that's the last metal fab on the cab before primer and paint on the cab/cage....

Paul, good call on the comp.
I think the next time my Craftsman blows a rod, I'll be getting a 2 stage again. Fockin' oiless are cheap junk.

as much as I grew to detest the screaming banshee, it earned it's keep many, many times over.... paid like $400 for that thing almost 15 yrs ago... for occasional use, painting, etc it was great.. put out a good amount of air.... but with the constant fab over the last 2 yrs, it really just started driving me insane...

the funny part about it all is that the screaming banshee now lives on as a silent banshee at the marina... :haha: i yanked the compressor off, put a couple fittings in it, strapped it to a handcart, and now use it as a 60 gal auxilary tank for our mobile gas compressor.. works freakin awesome for air hog tools, like my longboard, air da's, etc...

Nice compressor! One note, you might want to put a drop on the relief valve of that
old teledyne Laars so it doesn't blow all over that new equipment. If you ever need
another one, I've got a nice used one sitting in my garage (166K input).
The K5 is looking awesome.

no motivation........ haven't touched the rig in 3 weeks or so..... :( nice clean shop, new air, just not motivated..... no energy for it...

I don't feel guilty about it, as I pound tons of hrs down there... guess i deserve a break now and then... just hoping I get revved up again soon... maybe tomorrow I'll get off my butt and do some fab work...

btw..... think I'm doing a glass hood... contemplating this 3.5" from US Body Source....

If you are looking at the type hood. I would suggest taking a look at the products from Autofab in California. Autofab.com their website is terrible but products are nice. Not sure if they are still making hoods for our trucks but worth a try.

Been following this thread for a long time but never had anything useful to say. Great build!

Yup, everyone deserves some time to relax. Can't blame you for that. Of course I spend most of my time relaxing. Now that it's starting to cool down this week I may have to try to get some things done on my rig. for the most part it's been to hot to stay out in the garage for very long.
Your build thread has been an inspiration to me. always look forward to reading and re-reading it.

you ain't kidding, the site sucks.... :haha: thanks, I'll check into em....

I'd really like to go glass for a couple reasons.... the airpan/flapper setup I'm doing will be much easier to do on a glass... and the main reason is I REALLY want a 3.5", 4" one.... and I've yet to see a steel version that isn't 2".....

I've heard MOSTLY good about US Body Source, unlike Unlimited Products... good quality apparently, but ya pay for it....

I've been pounding it very hard since March, at home, and especially at work.. the last 6 weeks of 90+ weather has been the last straw I think... plugging away down in the dungeon today..... I'm sure I'll pick it up over the next couple weeks...

thanks for the props guys, it does help the motivation.....

good question.... it's 1/4" wall so I didn't bother.... also the bolt holes are only an inch or so from the tube ends, which are capped with 1/4"...

something thinner, yeah i might have... the hardware is 1/2" and i torqued the snot out of em without any fear of crushing, etc... definitely a nice way to do it, just didn't feel it was necessary in this case and definitely didn't want the added labor...

Definitely understandable, great work!

got the driverside front cab corner done... slider finished, capped with welded nuts for the fender (which is also sectioned and done, just not in the pic) to bolt to......

also got the wheelwell mount done... all seamsealed and ready for hi-build...

I've just gotta do the qrter panel sectioning and back slider cap on that side, and the cab is basically ready for hi-build and paint.... once that's done, I can start hanging the suspension....

next fab work after priming/painting... shock towers....

** Ryoken's Shopping List **

1 - primer & paint

2 - headers

3 - hood

Damn dude that looks awesome. Mine is going to be so hack compared to all your sweet fab skills :doah:
