87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

good to have ya back around bud... where you away working or something?

the grill and support are going the same satin black as the bumper... with steelbraided lines and silver coolers behind it...

I'm really leaning towards some custom modded stock steel wells at the moment.. i'll mock up my rusted out metal ones after the shock towers and see if i feel they'd be better as fiberglass... or if i just wanna transfer over the mods to some replacement metal ones... i'm kinda leaning in that direction...

i've heard sooo many horror stories about the durability of the aftermarket support, i really wanted to stay with a GM if possible... this happened to be the one that came with the front clip i bought for the fenders.. the original 87 one was pretty wrecked... major surgery to make it decent.. plus, i think i can run the round headlight buckets in this core...

I was out to sea working for the past 2 months. Not a bad gig being in the carribean for the majority of this bitter winter. :D

But ya aftermarket core supports are paper thin, mine started cracking and welds splitting in about 2 months, it eventually took my grill with it too since it flexed too much and almost my radiator because that bottom panel couldn't support the weight of the radiator :eek1:. About once a week I'd have to bend the panel pack into place so my fan wouldn't eat me radiator. I found a gm replacement and it has been solid ever since installing.

I'd love to have the support done, primed , painted and back in this weekend... while waiting on all this Summit stuff I need, the next fab item is the airpan....

Slide show, was cool.:thumb:

I got a question for you, if I clean the frame on my 02 truck, paint it with zinc and then paint over with:dunno:, would that keep the rust away.

well.. keep in mind that zinc chromates true purpose is etching and corrosion protection... thus why it's main purpose is raw steel... if your putting zinc over paint, sanded paint, etc it's best to only use it as a super pisscoat, wet on wet application with hopefully a fill or seal primer, then a topcoat...

thats what gives you all the protection.. real 2 part urethane or epoxy primer... if it's just going to paint, yes, the zinc can be used in the same way, as an etch for the topcoat. but it now has one less part of the durability process...

if i'm doing a quickie frame job... i degrease it, i sand it, spotblast, grind, whatever, then spot some zinc on the raw spots, fill prime, and/or paint the whole thing..

well... i always prefer a catalyzed resin if i can run/afford/shoot it... it's either the $50 brushed or sprayed Rusto air dried route or the $125 to $300 sprayed catalyzed route usually.. Imron being about $250ish.......

i like it that is kick a$$ i wish i could do my 75 like that but i have to have access to the hood release lever

the earlier hood line might be a challenge too...

thanks... :D

still working on the bottom mounts.. but the top mounts came out so strong..... can't wait to get it in black! :woot:

only things to add to the ceiling area are clear covers on the breakers, cage padding over the door, and eventually I may, or may not, build some visors...

I really need to order a windshield soon...
