87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

wow man take care of yourself.your back aint no joke.my dads on his i think 12th sergery on his back.lost 4 disks and is now 3 inches shorter.he finally got it fused with titanium now.it still hurts but doesnt put him in a chair every couple of months.a good break in the middle of winter will be nice.id get to the dock and check it out.its definitely a pinched nerve at the least right now since its runin down your leg.the truck will be there when you can physically do it again.a permanent back injury will not help with life of work.

I'll be broke with time.... :pimp:

Hey we're in the same boat! I'm having ankle surgery next week which will force me off of it for 2-3 months. I guess we'll both just have to be web wheelers until the first of the year. :waytogo:

Good luck to both you guys. I had my disc (c6-7) replaced a couple years ago and all is well with me! 7 weeks and back to work. So far, so good!

thanks guys, good luck with yours Avery... thats one surprisingly I've never had issues with.. I f*cked everything else up royally skating vert over the years, but my ankles have always been solid.. but the modern street skaters, it's like their #1 malady...

I'm just kinda trying to muddle thru till I get to the doc.... work is brutal enough, I just hate being in so much pain around the house... I haven't done a damn thing in months...

looks like I'll have a new DD by the end of the year, so hopefully I start getting toys for the K5 again at that point.. found a super clean 96 Cummins that hopefully I'll be getting next month...

that K30 is a beast...and if it had overdrive it'd be perfect. It wouldn't get anywhere fast, but it'd pull a house down if you wanted it to. You don't see em specc'd that way very often.

I hope your back heals up good Paul, I know the short periods of time my back get's wonky it's just hell. Takes the fun out of everything.

Ryoken, hope the back is coming around.

Build looks great thanks for passing on the knowledge.

Was able to glean a few lessons from your post. Been wanting to try a glassed sub box and even center console. Have you done any glass work using fleece or do you stick to the mats? Any difference structurally once the resin goes on?

Buy the way wicked jello mold. But please tell me the new dungeon doesn't have a stove and apron in it with the bad back and all. May have to follow you on cooking .com instead ck5. Hehehe.:D

actually I was contemplating finding an electric oven for the Dungeon the other day.. start doing some powdercoating... ;)

thanks for the props and my bad for not tending to my novel...

unfortunately things haven't gotten any better... I can take more than anyone I know, skating vert has beaten me brutally over the years, but this one has gotten stupid... trying to make it till x-mas might kill me... :doah:

anyway, enough wah wah.... umm, fiberglass, sure I've worked with fabrics quite a few times... haven't done anything in a car in over a decade or so, but I occasionally have an app for it on the boats at work, speaker enclosures, odd dash work and such.......

my glass knowledge is an integral part of my overall bodyshop knowledge.. it all started back doing Mack truck front clip hits and resto's 25 yrs ago thru vettes, then a billion boats... vacuum bag, layup's, poly, vinyl, epoxy, blah blah.....

boat stuff really just put that skillset over the top.. I started using the composite glass about 20 yrs ago and have been a preacher whenever possible... beyond amazing product... didn't start out as an original build theme with my rig, using the composite, but it certainly became one once I did the console panels...

anyway, thanks for the patience bro's, doesn't make me happy, but it's just what it is right now unfortunately....

oh, and i forgot to answer your other question.... no, nothing structurally different per se.. it's really just another way of molding in a way... just a permament one that you lay up over... now, how you layup after that will vary with who you talk to.... i generally like to add 3 layers to a fabric setup... a med mat, light cloth, med mat... but it also matters what shaping you have too.. i have been known to wetbed a heavy weave rectangle into a flat here and there on a layup if I think it would help structurally without adding much difficulty to the layup process..... presoaking of pieces like that is recommended..

but yeah, any glass question ya may have, i more than likely have an opinion on the subject... ;)

I know way to well about the back thing. My dad and I share a genetic annomoly. 8' spinal cord in 6' body. Never kept us from riding the donor cycles though. Dad is on back surgery #9 (due for one every two years). I hold my own due to a bonecracker and I am a conservitive with a plan (dont bring a scalpel to a gunfight).

What is the manufacturer of the compsite I am not familer with it? My glass work is almost nil, made a couple of cable guide peices for the old mans plane but thats it. Any fav's on resin brands or any other products?

:haha: I've painted 2 planes and dyed a fabric one... :pimp:

depends on what ya wanna use resin-wise.. poly, vinyl or epoxy.... we've been using a lot of Hi-Bond resin's lately... good stuff.... i really like both their poly and vinyl... epoxy, ya can't beat West System.. big bucks tho..... waaaaay more user friendly tho over poly and vinyl... but even the run of the mill Evercoat resin ya find at Evilzone is fine for a poly resin...

With you laid up. Now we can pick your brain for all the dumb noob questions possible.

At least it will keep the cobwebs from filling the attic (your only good to us if you can remember this stuff).:haha:

Any luck on finding a daily driver. You cant seem to throw a rock around here and not hit what your looking for. In fact got one in my backyard. '90 1ton single cab, single axle, 454/400 tbi 4.10 rear in great shape. Just need to fix the door on driverside. Dam heavy doors. Need new hinges.

Oh and it may have spun a bearing. Nothing a long weekend (or two) cant fix.

eh, I'm pretty resigned on getting a second gen Cummins Dodge at this point.. tho I did look at a 1 ton Cucv with a 6.2 last week.. it was sold tho.. plow truck with a flatbed, it looked pretty hoopty anyway....

but even on the cummins, i've decided to wait till mar or april to buy it.. no point in having a new truck sitting outside while i'm layed up broke.. i'd rather keep adding to the account and have the emergency winter backup funding...

Cars, Trucks, Boats and now planes. What no Choo-Choo's, or heliocopters.

My friend I am disapointed. Well we cant all walk on water.:haha:
Oh wait I forgot you work on boats:bow:

Hey Paul, thoughts and prayers coming at you for your sanity and physical health.

Keep it up!!!

hey, thanks guys... :D

I do kinda feel like I'm letting you guys down some.. i'll be back at it... what drives me crazy is pretty much all the hard work is done, it's mostly money and assembly at this point.. every time i go down to do laundry and see the rig sitting there, it's like torture....

i have often thought that, "hey, i get slaughtered all day, what's a few more hrs when i get home?" only problem being, I can barely walk at that point... :doah:

Yeah, get your health right Paul, the toys aren't nothing without your health, and they will be there when your healthy.:waytogo:

Take care of the back, so you can enjoy it all later.
yeah man.the truck can wait.your back is way more important to try and keep healthy.im lucky my back isnt too bad from skatin.but 2 surgeries on my ankles are where it got me.the knees arent too happy anymore either.are you still gonna get the 2 month layoff in december january?have you seen a doc about it?sounds like at least a minor surgery may be in your future.my dads had about 15 on his back.had 3 disks removed ultimately and this last one had them fuse togeter the bottom 6 inches so they will be permanent and can rupture anymore disks.good luck man and keep us posted.even if you put one small thing a day together on the truck, there is still progress.eveerytime i go to the garage i try to at least do one thing to mine.even if its just wipin off the dust.and paul, dont worry about letting us down.youve spawned some real cool tech stuff and even a color of paint has now been named after you...aww the ryoken green color.zim is even gona keep the maiden that color if i remember right.
