87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

Mutt's about to get a tube service/tow bed built on it over the next few months... gooseneck bolted to the frame, tool/parts drawers that slide out the side, alum plate panels, yada, etc...

here's the design and a link to that thread...

hopefully next winter I'll be running the inboarded spring setup from Kert's CC and 38's like he had..

I don't go to Pirate... ;)

actually, the plan is to buy Kert's whole suspension setup, minus the tires (I'll run similar military 38 BFG baja's) widened rims, axles (rear being a 70 with discs and 4.88's), hangars, springs, shocks, yada....

the tubebed is a HUGE project, about 5 g's in materials and prolly 500 to 600 hr's...

but anyway, while we've got everybody in here reading :haha:, a small K5 update...

finished the pickup gate... thanks Avery! :waytogo:

oh, and did the gas fill cover...

I know you have Buku experience in paint/body..... But, it still amazes me every time.

Its look *poof*, another perfect Ryoken component. :haha:
It really makes my sh*t look like a cobbled mess. :D

I was wondering if that is what you meant, but I read 38's in a couple of your posts, so I was confused. Yeah I have a set of the 37" Bajas.

yeah, I had 38 on the brain...

how have you liked them?

I liked the look of the tread pattern more than the GY's, a bit more aggressive...

Haven't used them yet. 78SWB has them on his, and I think he likes them.

tonight it's bourbon..... :woot: :doah: :haha:

and thanks... :D

sooooooo glad to get rid of the eleventy hundred pound K5 gate and it's torsion bars....

Avery's was pretty mint.. couple minor dents I had to fix, and the trim is just about perfect with just a couple minor dings below the handle...

so a pickup gate will fit right on there with no mods???? :dunno:

it's all good.... just a few neers in me justifying my insanity.... ;)

5 more build days for the circus wagon, let's see how much I can get done... :deal: was just down working on it at 11 pm... :doah: :haha:

Tailgate looks good! :thumb:

And you are drinking neer :haha::D

awesomer...neers for everyone!

well, sorta.. ya need to buy/acquire/steal the trunions and hinge assemblies.. and the links (kinda like the cables)

it's all bolt on.. the qrters (c-posts) have the bolt holes in em for that stuff..

I still need to put the alum strip for the softtop tho....

Whenever I'm able to get my softop, I'm going to take it to a boat shop and have the sewer sew a strip magnet across the lower edge of the rear window.

That way, I don't have to put screw holes in my tailgate.

Just an idea. Annnndd, since you work in a boat shop area I thought you might know somebody helpful that way.

Later,
Buddy

good idea... it'd have to be pretty strong magnet tho... and I definitely have a few connections in the biz..

and yeah, drilling holes across that fresh sheetmetal for the alum strip is a bit disturbing... I'm not concerned about rust or anything like that.. just how it looks when you have the softtop rolled up...

I don't think it'd have to be too much. It's going to be ballast already. The magnet just helps it stick.

well, I do know with my fasttrac, the rail really helps pull it down into place and "stretch" it... just like the sides, and the corners... if you just hold the panel against the gate, it looks like sh*t... I'm gonna look at it tomorrow and see how I feel about the strip...

Plus it has zippers down the sides doesn't it? We're only talking about 6 inches max of flapping potential. I wonder why they don't have it as an option.

also... look at that last pic... see how the corners are riding up.. they actually hook under the track too.. I know, magnets will not hold that down.. straight across.. now, another top brand, the one out now, the squarer looking one, it may look better..

my fasttrac is long discontinued...
