87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

I generally cringe when I see it come up when not working on it... :doah:

but I guess a couple thousand hr's of labor can end up translating into a million views... :haha:

Yeah, but how much power does the motor make? Got it running yet?

what's an anemic stock 87 TBI motor put out anyway? 84 at the tires? :dunno: :haha:

running motor I have, trans is another story... but now that this rig is looking more and more like a trailer queen thanks to Mutt, it makes ALL my driveline decisions WAY wrong.... :doah: :doah: the question is, do I nut up and throw the custom t-case x-member to the tuition pile.... and go with some wiser choices..

oh well, I'll start sorting it out thru the winter..... hang on girl, daddy's coming.. :deal:

I think you should keep it as road worthy as possible. I think you could have alot of fun bringing that camping and such. Trailer queens are cool, but man are they a hassle. Its this far, motors in, run it imo. Go crazy with it later if you want.

young in tree rings, wise in sumfin...

you're probably right.... just do the 700... get it drivable and see how it all pans out... that was it's original purpose, to be my camping rig...

I get so much joy taking mine out to grandpas place, romp around his fields and trails, hang out at the lake. If it was only a trailer rig, it would be meh. And it would need to be super radical IMO to make it worth it.

I have always liked that I can drive mine to work, and then drive it to the dunes on friday, wheel all weekend, fill the tires up and drive it home...

:waytogo:

the one thing I do plan to attack is getting it down on it's rubber.. get the axles freakin built and hung... I'll worry about the trans, electrical, etc after that...

contrary to Eric's poking for links ;), just flipped 56's out back and standard length leafs up front for now... 4" with the 1" BL and the 38 TSL's...

but I only have the front ez-rides, rear flip and 56's..... I stole the front FUSH kit and all the x-over steering for Mutt...

the only real fab left on the rig is a back bumper... it's just a f*ckton of parts and dinero at this point... :doah: :pimp:  :haha:

Too much cool hidden things on this to drive every day, put it on a trailer and call it good.

Let Mutt do the towing

yeah, it won't go to DD status.. but I do luv the idea of keeping it capable of driving the 5 hr's to camping... I'll tow it out to Rausch for wheeling, etc.. but I'd need to actually drive it to the Canadian border for my fishing/camping fun, due to towing the little boat..

man... :( this thread revival get's me all worked up and sad about it's current status... trust me, I will get back to, and go balls to the wall and drive this rig over the next yr or 2...

Dont get to crazy imo. If you decide to go radical later. Do a rebuild, with links and fun parts.

Its already super aweosme. Get it running, enjoy it, you could be dead tomorrow. Thats how I look at stuff, why wait to make it perfect when I could have some fun now.

But enough preaching. Ill let you get back to pondering. And no more updates till we see progress :D

yup, it's been forever just building all my specific console nonsense and such... f*ck all the link time, etc.. get it together and run it..

if I throw 5 to 8 g's at it.. I could literally have it drivable in a few months...

Not to poke the bear or anything, but I agree with Adam. My rig is a trailer queen and I hate it. Wish I could enjoy it more than just wheeling. Hopefully that will change soon. :). The next bump hopefully will be a good update. :thumb:

I love the Mutt, but i must say, I can't wait to see this thing get some more attention!

thanks... it's pretty over the top.. some pretty neat stuff going on IMO....

I should clarify something.. when I was talking "more a trailer queen" it was kinda more that I would have the flexibility with the trailer capabilty...

my intention has always been to have the rig street legal, and still is.. well, as legal as I can make a K5 on 38's in joysey... it was more about making the rig a little more potent offroad by changing over to a doubler set up..

but again as brought up... get it driving and if I want to mod/change that down the road, I could..

hopefully the next time I post in here, it'll be pics of a big o' pile of parts!

Getting it running and moving under its own power again will be a big step. Once you can actually get behind the wheel again it will be the best feeling. I'm taking mine out to get winshield replaced and hopefully inspected this week to be able to drive again legally. It's a great feeling.
