We have a 1987 Blazer with 350 throutle body and auto trans and 4wd. How can I tell what tank I have for shure so i can order a fuel pump..

Also it does not look like i can get a delco pump yet. Is there a after market which is good....

I was thinking of getting the whole unit with sender because my gauge is acking up a little,

thank you stano

A K5 will have either a 25 or 31 gal tank, the 41 gal tank is for Suburbans. The majority of K5's were equipped with the 31 gal tank.

If you still have the option sticker in the glove box you can google "RPO codes" to decode it and be certain.

Bingo with RPO codes.. NK7 31 gallon tank....NY1 Fuel tank sheilk....NY1 transfer case sheild....

thank you nvrenuf

Plus mine has the angle cut at the bottom at the rear like the picture does in the link post.....thanks wheel87K5

any body have an opinion on AirTec fuel pumps.....Or Delpi

I have had absolutely no luck with airtex. Finally the shop i work at just started running delco on gm stuff and the problems went away. A bit more pricey but worth it in my opinion

We also often instal the Airtex pumps at work, they aren't that great but they are more reliable than the other aftermarket junk. If it were my K5, I'd go ahead and get an aftermarket sender and then a Delco (not Delphi) fuel pump.

My friend replaces a lot of fuel pumps at his shop--he's had a lot of comebacks and poor luck with Airtex brand pumps--they used to have a great reputation, but lately they seem to be slipping....he uses a lot of "Spectra" brand pumps when customers are on a tight budget and balk at buying an Ac-Delco OEM one,and he hasn't had any of them give trouble really, only a few that failed from the customer running the car out of gas repeatedly ,which can happen to ANY pump...people just dont listen when he tells them NOT to run the car with a gallon or two of gas in it all the time, which is done often in these hard times with high fuel prices....gas is cheaper than new fuel pumps and labor to drop the tank again!...

What's the gauge doing? You may not need a sending unit to fix the problem. Grounds good, gauge wiring good, gauge good?

I have used all Delco pumps before. I have not had any trouble. I think I have used three of them in the past. But I was going to buy a complete unit but found out Delco doesn't have a complete unit because the gauge might not be working. However, I am going to stick with everyone's advice and buy the Delco pump which comes alone. Maybe I'll go with an after market gauge if it proves to be bad.

I haven't looked at the gauge much. I've been dealing with the pump mostly. It was reading just under 1/2 tank and I thought the tank was almost empty. Then when I put some gas in it to make sure I had gas for the pump it showed above 1/2. So I'll have to check it because it may still work.

However, thanks for your advice and helping me stick with Delco.

Thanks,
stano

Used to be you could find the Delco pumps on ebay for relatively decent prices, I don't see anything but overpriced ones now.

Might try rockauto for your pump, sometimes they have good prices, sometimes not. I've not had much luck finding local delco parts at decent prices.

i put a bosch pump in mine, seems to work just fine,2 years now
