87 K5 questions.

Can't seem to sell this so I am going to start working on it and using it for my hunting rig. 87 K5, 14 bolt rear end, 700r.

1. Speedo don't work, I was told the 700r is not stock in this truck so would the end that goes into the tranny be different?
2. Heater motor makes alot of noise, do I get at it from the inside or under the hood and where do I buy a new one?
3. Leaks rear end oil on end of axle at wheel, do I remove the bolts on the axle and does it just pull out and then do I get a new gasket or use something in a tube to seal?
4. PO put a different tailgate with elec motor that does not work and truck isn't wired for it. Should I look for another tailgate with manual crank? Should there be rubber seal on top where window touches if open?

I am sure I will have more questions. Thanks.

1. If the truck was originaly an auto, then it should have came with a 700r4 stock. The speedo cable hooks into the transfercase.

2. It's under the hood. Passanger side on the firewall. Turn it on, open the hood and look on the "suitcase" it should be easy to find if it's making allot of noise.

3. If it is a 14 bolt (if it is, then its been swapped in). Yes, pull the 8 bolts off that are on the end of the shaft. Tap the flange and it should pull out. Don't even need to remove the wheel or jack the truck up. I've never used a gasket when putting it back together, just some RTV.

4. Not to sure on that one, I've only delt with manual windows. I've heard you can take the cable out of the window motor, put it in a drill, spin it and that will make the window go up/down.

Thanks for the info so far! Where do I buy the fan motor, rear window seals, etc and is there a book or someplace online that shows all of these parts?

I have a 4" lift in back and a 6" lift in front and there are no shocks or bolts on the front. Where do I get these and how do I know what shock for a 6" lift?

The fan motor you can get pretty much anywhere. Depending how much you want to spend, junkyard or new. If you want a new one, any parts store should be able to get you one.

lmctruck.com has the gaskets for the window/hard top.

My truck has around 9" off lift so I can't help with the shocks. Maybe someone can measure theirs for you.
