87 k5 stalling out

Looking to buy a 87 k5.It runs smooth for a about 2mins then hits a higher idle and then stalls out.I have to hold the aceelator to the floor to get het started but alot of times wont start.Get alot of black smoke out of exhaust ??Unburn fuel im guessing .. Any ideas?????

LOL,........ bud, once you get some answer's, I'll probably get some ideas too!! I'm going through the same damn problem. If you give it some fuel while driving, does it buck and cough, for a bit than die?? That's kinda what mine is doing and I think it my fuel pump. (Long story, short)My jackass neighbour went and turned the pot on the fuel pump and I think (ha, think, I know it has to be) it broke the seal, so I'm getting air into the fuel before the carb.

Some guy looked at it and said a code 12 to much fuel

If code 12 blinks more than 3 times then that means that there are no codes stored.

Hpw do you read the codes on a 1989?

You can either buy a key or a code reader from the parts store, or you can take a paper clip and bend it into a "u" shape and insert it into the top right two prongs on your andl connector under the dash. After inserting it turn the key on and watch the check engine light. It should flash code 12 3 times and any codes after that. It will flash all codes 3 times each and then go back to code 12 when finished.
