87 rbi running really rich but no ck engine light

So I have finally started to put my truck back together. I have a new tune up on it but it is running so rich it will stall at times. It is also throwing clouds of black smoke out of the tail pipe. The check engine light has yet to tell me anything even when I tried the paper clip trick. Any ideas guys??

Do you at least get a code 12 when you do the paperclip trick?

make sure your injector patterns are reasonable and not spraying like a fire nozzle..

and yeah, verify proper codes..

well, ya gotta look to fuel.. gm tbi just assumes the fuel delivery is all just hunky ducky dorey at all times... injectors, pressure, yada...

what's the plug reading look like?

I have to pull them. The pump is only a year old but that doesn't mean anything. I noticed that one of the plastic pieces on top of the injectors seems to be pretty melted.
