today i found a 1987 2wd srw crewcab, was told its a 3/4 ton silverado(it had 8 lug) behind an old mans barn while i was out riding, going to look at a new natural gas well bein drilled out in bfe, its straight, no rust, drivers side front door glass gone/broken(but had/has a tarp over it), interior is nice-velour, has carpet & the carpet on the doors under the door panels, the door panels have the pull strap on them, dash not cracked, the rad support sticker says 87 & 454(actually, it said, iirc 7.4L, anywho it said the big block was factory) runs & drives, we jump started it and i took it for a quick drive,10-12 miles or so(was quiet, rode nice, no strange sounds) it was right at dusk after i got back, so i didn't get to inspect the underside all that well, tbi 454,76,000 miles (supossedly not been rolled over, truck looks like low mileage), factory aluminum rims?(was told), hood ornament, stacked headlights w/ turn signals in the grille, 2 owner, i'll be the 3rd, for....wait for it....... $1000.....i'm buyin it regardless, for the engine at least, heck, i could pull it out put a 350 in it and prolly get my money back out of it, but i have some questions

1)- i thought i read somewhere in a thread on here that cc's didn't come in 3/4 ton...or am i imagining this?

2)- the fender badges say silverado 20, and the dash says silverado, but it has manual windows and roll up glass, i thought all silverados of the later yrs(82, 83, 84 & later) had electric locks/windows?

3)- i'm also wondering what trans should be in this truck? was the th400 still in use behind the big block in 87? going back for closer look tomorrow.

4)- is this a rare truck?(before i tear into it to make my cc swb 4x4) btw, its 2 tone brown/beige.

its not really "rare" I've seen lots of silverados with manual windows and locks

being an R20 crew cab is kinda weird but oh well I'm sure they made them I have a 76 K20 crewcab

and yes should be a TH400

my shortbed is a silverado....ac, 4spd, sliding rear window, crank windows, cloth bench seat......its the only one ive ever seen but your rite on with the not so rare idea...

Man I would LOVE to have found that...... I want a crew cab short bed sooooo bad.... 2 wheel drive or 4.... I would through me a front axle under there and let her eat...... grab it up!!!!

Lots of 3/4 ton crewcabs around here, and I don't believe that GM ever put a 700R4 behind a big block, pretty safe bet that it's a TH400.

Nice find on a clean low mileage crew cab for that price though :D

There are "3/4" crewcabs, yes. They have the same frame as a 1-ton, however, i.e. taller and thicker frame section, and narrower spring spacing. They have lighter springs than the 1-tons, same as you'd find on a light-duty (i.e. the lowest GVWR) 1-ton single cab.

The Silverado trim level was more about interior and exterior than options; check my Brochures page, linked below. (All I have is paperwork for the Blazer and Burb, but the trimlines are the same across the models for any given year.) Electric locks/windows were just an option checkbox. You tend to see them on the up-optioned trucks, but I think you'll find manual stuff on pickups more often then on Blazers/Burbs, as pickup buyers stereotypically want manual stuff more. :dunno:

That truck should be a TH400, yes; the 3/4's and 1-ton's had the TH400 until 1991 when they got the 4L80E.

Is the truck rare ... I doubt you'll get $$ for it at Barrett Jackson, anyway. SRW crewcabs are not real common, took me a few months to find mine. (And I converted it to SRW ... but without the fenders :D )

You know that you 'd have to make it, right ... crewcabs were all longbed from the factory. (Yes, there were some weird cab-n-chassis trucks, but that doesn't count ;) )
