'87 Suburban Build "munepit" I'm Back! Missed all you guys!

I'm having a problem with one beadlock. Hope the rest don't do this. I'm super new to having beadlocks as this is my first set. I know this are the cheapest beadlocks you can get. There is no anti coning ring and this could be the result. I hope it is an easy fix and I don't ruin the tires. One part of the tire is comming out of the clamp. It is tight too. I don't get it. It is almost completely out of the beadlock. It leaks big time it that part is touching the ground.

Pics. It's in about the 3 O'clock position.

you have to take it off and recenter the tire ... Not excited for you

That's it? I thought there would be more to it. I used bead sealer on the front bead also. It does suck, but the impact works fast.

Also, I tightened them as tight as possible. And it still came out.

Thanks Chris.

Also, I tightened them as tight as possible. And it still came out.

That might be part of the problem. You can see how much coning you're getting in the third pic, there is quite a bit of space under the bolt head on the inner side.
I'd re-center it and torque them to "spec". I say that but I don't know what it is off hand, I do know there is an acceptable range though and it isn't stupid tight. :D

If that doesn't work I'd look into "V" belts or order up some anti-coning rings.

Yeah, what avery said.

IIRC they shouldnt be torqued more than 20ftlbs.

I would also reccomend anti coning rings. A v belt works fine for this. measure out what you need and hit up a lawnmower shop. Just enough to fit inside the ring

They are coning bad. As bad as you can get, all 140 bolts or however many there are are like that. The inner part of the ring touches the the welled on beadlock. If that makes since. So there is a one inch cone all around all the wheels. Wonder if I could press them flat and weld on some anti conning rings.

Sure wish I could buy some new beadlock wheels.

20ft.lbs. is plenty enough. Another cause of what you see there is uneven torquing. It can be done with air tools, just takes a bit more familiarity or a feel for it which an air tool doesn't lend the feel very well.

OH, and the v belt is still the best anti coning ring IMHO.

What worked for me is to get it centered then tighten in a circle instead of the cris cross way. I have no clue why that worked but it did. Just only tighten a few turns at a time. Takes awhile but works

Thanks for the ideas. Going to try and flatten out the ring and put a V belt in there.

I got two grooved. 2 more to go. Not much different than my other set, But I like this way better. We will see how they work soon.

It's been a long time since I have updated this thread. A lot has happened to the Burb since the last post. Most everybody knows the details but I'm going to start posting here again. I have a lot of pictures to post and a lot of wheeling trips comming up.

Pics to come.

First flop. Happened in the middle of Sept.

At this point, I was kinda happy. I built this to wheel and I didn't need to worry about the body anymore.

Damm, the paint looked really good up till then. Also, wonder if I had adjusted the shocks to super loose I would have had more flex? I have the MX6s. It was on the stiffest setting when I flopped it. Looking at the last photo, the left rear wheel is off the ground. I do think my diff is on the tractor tire in that pic though.

I know y'all have seen this, but I might as we post them here.

This was a full roll. Happened at the end of Sept. at the 4WheelParts deal in Gorman.

Then I drove it home 70moh for an hr or so on I-5. Drove great, glad I didn't get a ticket. No mirrors, dirty, and I couldn't see hardly at all.

This is bad. The door came open during the roll. Glad I didn't kill the passenger.
He had just taken off his seatbelt about 3 seconds before the roll. He ended up in the back of the Suburban. He could died that night. I think the door opened from damage on the flop the week before this.

Window shattered and I broke the mirror.
