88 3/4t 4wd info

my dad just picked up an 88 k20 for $350. Clean title runs great. Very rough body, but he need a ranch truck. The only bad is that the tranny is shot. First we are going to see the cost of rebuilding it.

My question is. Is the tranny a 700r or th400 or what. The tranny is a 241.

Could be either one. Look at the gear indicator and see what it says. PRND21 it's a 400, PRNDD21 it's a 700.

88 3/4ton would be a th400.

easy enough to tell buy looking at the pan.

It could be either one. Even tho it is a 3/4 ton, they made them with 6 lug, basically a glorified 1/2 ton, in which they had 700 auto. Getting a tranny shouldn't be hard whichever it is...

Yep got the 6 lugs. Didn't look like at th400, but it was getting dark. I was leaning towards a 700r4.
