I have a line on a great price for the 1/3-2/3 bench from an extended cab pickup. I'd like to get it to replace the beaten up buckets in my K5.

I believe I've read here that this works, but I have a couple of quick questions:

1. Does the width fit in the K5?
2. I know the holes don't line up, from what I've read. Are there any other interesting things I should know as they are installed?

Thanks in advance, folks.

Bump

I understand it's a '92 60/40 bench. I've seen some late model Tahoe seats in a K5. Anyone done or seen one of these?

Thanks in advance!

I replaced my worn out buckets, for a '08 GMC Kodiak benchseat....

The front mounting holes were too far forward, so we made a custom frame.
The width is PERFECT for a K5, and they come w/ "memory" foam!!!

Best thing I put in my K5... besides my Detroit locker. ;)

88-up buckets on 1x1 square tube frame welded direct to bench slider brackets.

the 88-up buckets still have there sliders also.

gave me a nice lift inside. would be tight with out tilt wheel tho in the knees .

mounted in truck cab.

OK, so I have the bench. I like your set-up. Did you just separate the seats from their frame, bolt the original frame to the floor, and then use the new tube frame from side to side? And, if I may ask...where'd the slider gear come from? Mine doesn't look anything like that.

Does it all slide as one piece, like it looks?

Thanks again!

here is my other truck to show the slider setup and tube frame.

these are truck cabs and bench seat stock stuff.

stock truck bench slider brackets unbolted from the seat. then bolted to floor.

DONT forget the cable to the pass side . i used a nut for the piviot point on the new frame.

then set the frame up and weld it up. and atach the way you want . i welded it . then set the seats up the way you want and install extra tubes for front to back for support for the seats. and even in the middle for center console.

i had kirt @ diy4x make me some simple tabs for welding to the tube . then i can bolt the seats down and go. he did them for under 1.50 each

need more just ask buddy

Holy christ, that's beautiful.

Now, did you try to sit the bench, old mounts and all, on the cab floor? In other words, why did you do this? Were the bolt holes wrong (which I believe they are), were they too low, etc?

I've read around that if you're using a bench in the K5 where it didn't have one, you have to reinforce the floor. Does this accomplish that?

How hard was it to take the seat frame off of the seat cushions? I want to wire wheel mine up, prime and paint them. They need some TLC, and if everything is bolting together anyway, and not being welded from the tube frame to the brackets, I can get started on that as I wait for my floor to get replaced.

Thanks again...please keep the great information coming, and those pics are priceless.

i play with trucks . so not use to workin on k5 floor pans.

but my trucks had the benches. so i pulled them. then unbolted the slide brackets from the bench frame.

then just bolted them back to the floor. and figured out the square frame size i needed. then cut and welded it up.

if you look in my first pics blue cab gray seats. the tube frame is flat on factory sliders.

the new truck green cab no seats yet in pics has 1" lift in the front end to help kick the seat frame up just a bit.

wish i had made the lift for the 1st setup. the 88-98 lowback buckets have a hard time flippin forward at times to get in the back. the internal safty latch gets messed up from the angle the seats are at now. if tilted back 5-10* would be perfect.

but the 1x1 square tube works simple and strong. plus its cheep and i used basicly all of a 20-21ft run of it on the blue cab gray seat truck.

OK, but without the lift, would they have been too low?

And, assuming you had carpet, I should be bolting through the carpet, yeah, and not cutting holes for it?

Thanks again!

the front lift would have helped the internal safty latch parts .

and its all 100% stock bolt to the factory floor.

and fyi this got me around 2" of lift in the cab over the stock seat setup. so if your a big tall guy watch the roof cab hight to your head.

this 2" overall lift was great. it got me a lot more comfy in the cab. my legs dont cramp up on long drives. and with stick shift i had in there before it was much better on the left leg for shiftin .
