I'm going to build a center console in my 95 suburban, and move to a floor shifter in the process. And I'd like to get rid of the column shifter for looks reasons.

I was wondering ....

1. What actual columns might fit,?
And
2. Does anyone have a manual parts truck with a tilt column they're willing to part with.?

I don't need the wheel or anything, so it should be relatively easy to ship:dunno:

Let me know if you have anything

Removing the wheel and turn signal stalk will be required to get reasonable shipping and packaging. But the length will make it expensive if it isn't within a state or two for distance.

I haven't even checked my local yard yet. Maybe I can find one.

Figured it'd be at least worth looking into maybe.
Ive had a few things that surprised me on shipping.

I have a spare auto column around, and had thought about maybe just trying to modify the collar where the shifter goes. I may still try that:dunno:

Modifying with some grinding, fiberglass filler +;some epoxy & paint may be cheaper...

Manual shift and a tilt wheel... That's a tough search

Yeah. Was thinking that, but thought maybe the columns were the same. It's been 20 years since I had my 93, and I think it's the only older 'OBS' I've ever spent much time in.

You can take the cover off n remove the shifter, then put cover back on, or get stick column for cover, but then would have a stick column lol. I’ll try to get a pic of what I’m taking about…

It actually looks different than I had in my head.
For some reason I was thinking the column cover where the arm is spun with the shifter like the old ones.
So I should be able to just get the plastic covers from a manual, or make some inserts to fill the holes.

I won't need a whole column I guess

In fact I may just modify these and paint em.

What push lock thing?

I can see where I'd have to at least leave the shifter in like park or neutral so it'd start though. Or bypass that switch.

Think I know what you mean now... Not being able to get the key all the way back unless it's in park...?

So yeah I guess I'd have to leave the mechanism in park. And just unbolt/un pin/ cut uff the arm.

The push button release to the lock cylinder was a stick equipped truck only deal.

But the plan to pull the lever and leave the shifter in park will keep the ign able to start and the key to release. Only thing you won’t have is a neutral safety switch unless you wire one in with the new shifter.

I’m not sure if the s10 column covers are the same but you might have a better chance finding a manual equipped truck in a yard.

You may want to change the wheel on the S10 steering column but there were more Manual S10 's and produced till about 2000 in the old chassis's

There are plenty of manual 1 ton trucks.
I have a 99, unfortunately I need the setup but I come across trucks all the time.
I am sure one will pop up at pick n pull

The 88-94 style had a lot of manuals. Most of those that I've been in were manuals. Gotta say that I really haven't seen many 95+ ones:dunno:

I changed the title part to found since it's more of a "how to modify what I got" thing now.
I plan to scour the yard when I can and see if I can find the plastic covers for a manual column. If not, I'll cut up the one set I have for the plastic to fill the holes in mine, and wrap the finished product in the same vinyl Im using on other plastic pieces.
Or paint em :dunno:
Probably paint them first and if it looks bad, then vinyl lol

@shady hate to help butcher them but c3500-HD had 5speed and used gmt400 stuff .

i got 2 of my 4 here now with factory nv4500 setup . if i dont use the parts one i might sell it to you . its a 99 but c3500-HD was 95-02 same body .

Cool. All I really need is the plastics I think. Leaving the column in park isn't a big deal. I'll just wire the neutral safety switch in with the new shifter as mentioned. But at this point I actually don't know if the manual column plastics look even close to the auto column lol.
