I have two complete blazers.

My project has been my 88 it is full top now and has a newer 90's tbi silverado motor. Poweraid throttle body spacer, hypertec chip, Runs good have issue once in while where starter won't stop and have to pull the neg. cable. Other than that motor is solid. 700r tranny shifts well, putting it into gear from park it will jerk (what is that?).

I am at the point in the project where I am about to tear into the suspension and everything else under the body.

In California 75 is smog exempt so I need to use the frame from the 75, on this note what if any issues will I run into putting the 88 body and front end on the 75 frame?

What axles should I use and Why?

According to info. I have found the np205 in the 75 is a better transfercase than the 208 in the 88. Other than that not sure what to keep and why.

The tub on the 75 has some rust in normal blazer spots, above fender, door seals, etc. that is why I am not restoring the 75 body.

Also have a gm crate motor not sure on miles in the 75 with holley carb, eldelbrock performer intake manifold, headers, true dual flow exhaust, believe 350 tranny. Have not diven this truck yet started right up waiting on fuel sending unit to come in so I can put the tank in and drive it around.

Looking for information from people more knowledgeable than myself on what you would do if you were in this situation.

Thanks,
DJ

Someone correct me if I am wrong. I believe that the frames changed in 78 when they went to the dropped rear floor boards. So that being said I am not so sure an 88' tub will fit on a 75 frame which had the taller floor boards of that era.

No it wouldn't work that way. You can't just put a body lift on one end. That's retarded for one. If you can find a frame with a clean tub then your set.

I would just build the 88 blazer. There isn't much smog on it to begin with. Also even if you put the 88 body on the 75 frame it will still need to be registered as an 88 which means you will still need to smog it. Also, if you do happen to have the title for both vehicles unless the CHP is aware of the swap and has granted you legality to do it you can have the vehicle impounded and NEVER get it back again (i had a friend that this exact thing happened to).

For all that I can put the repair panels where needed. I like the leg room in rear as well as the TBI in the 88 (not to mention I have about 2000 in body work and material into it). There most be a way to do it short of cutting the two and fully boxing in the whole frame. Which I Will do if needed, but looking for more cost time and labor effective solution.
But Thanks anyway

On DMV website it read if the vin on the body is different from paperwork or looks tampered with the vin on the frame is the deciding factor. If needed I will look it up and post the shortcut, but would rather not look it up again over a pissing competition.

I OWN BOTH and are clean title.

If you have Titles for BOTH vehicles then you can swap body's BUT it still gets registered for the later year which means 1988 and SMOG.

Why are you against having to smog it? I have an 89 blazer with a HOT engine build that passed emissions testing LEGALLY with flying colors.

By the way, i have a good friend who lives in Oakdale and if you want i'll put you in touch with him and you can ask him for yourself how HOT my engine is and how it passed smog. If you need any help send me a PM and i'd be glad to help you. I don't get out that way too often but i'm due for a trip there soon anyways to visit my buddy and maybe we could meet up then.

Sounds Good and if your buddy does good work for a working man's price range would be glad to let him take a look.

My buddy's not much of a wrench, that's my territory. I've been working on cars/trucks for 31 years now as a hobby.

Quick Update got the 74 running today, I ordered the fuel tank sending unit with float, etc. from autozone took few days to come in, LONG STORY short, the damn thing is short put 4 gallons was sucking nothing but air.
It is the 3 outlet like the one that was laying in the back of blazer when I picked it up a couple weeks ago.
The Question being is there different length fuel sending units with the 3 outlet? The way auto zone made it seem is 4 outlet is for 30+ gallon and 3 is for the 20+ gallon tank (too lazy to look up the fuel tank specs.)
It is a factory 350 4bbl if that helps.

Obviously if the sending unit is too short then you have the 31 gallon tank and for 73-77 i only see a sending unit with 4 outlets for a 31 gallon tank and then there is a 3 and 4 outlet for the 25 gallon tank. Remember though that over the years many people have swapped parts around so you have no idea if your tank is original.

I have a 88 K5 in southern cali and want to increase the hp/tq numbers. My 79 c20 has a very nice smog legal 383, but it is carbed. It seems that tbi is a royal pain if not impossible to run a 400 hp/tq engine from. How did you improve your engine? I was thinking a 6.0l gen III swap, but I am still open to the idea of keeping the original block, and if I do I would rebuild it with some good parts. I am willing to put some money into this if I can obtain a great improvement over the stock 5.7. I would like to stay completely smog legal.
