88 chevy burban with a 5.7 runs rough

found two that said ecm?? pulled both did nothing. how do i check the fuel pressure? just a thought

You need to check those codes....

If the coolant temp sensor is open or shorted, it will cause the truck to run very rich.

If the fuel flow/pressure is low, it will be running very lean. If lean (low fuel pressure) is the condition, then while it is idling try spraying a little carb cleaner into the throttle body while holding the rpms at about 1500 (if it will).

If it runs better, than this will indicate that a lean condition (not enough fuel) exists. Check the injector spray pattern while the engine is at idle. They should both look similar and not be gobbing large amounts of fuel into the engine.

A vacuum leak is a possibility as well. At idle, spray carb cleaner around the intake manifold and see if the rpms change. Dont let any enter the TB or this will skew your results

This is just a few things you can check quickly and are not related to the ignition system....

Let us know how it goes:wink1:

Which codes exactly? Code 12 is normal, but you should only get that one. Any other code is indicating a real problem. Not necessarily with that item, just that item is out of spec for whatever reason. For example, code may say "O2 lean", but the problem isn't the O2 sensor, (though it could be) but really low fuel pressure, bad injector, etc. A "low MAP voltage" code could be a loose wire at a connector, and so on. Which is why you can't throw parts at problems. :)

i had the parts and is was messed up. so i did it why i was there. the light still just flashes. i dont have the time this. just going to by some damn scanner and get this done .

Don't buy a code scanner, you can do that with a paperclip. :)

If you are talking one of the $100+ tools that allows you to see the data, have at it!

well, its 180 or so. does obd1 and 2. witch i can use on my 98. i have 7 trucks with computers now so i figure i could use it.

Yeah, if it's one that tells you things like engine temp, etc., and does OBD 1/2, and you can use it in a bunch of different vehicles, certainly! :)
