My '88's body is gone. Have a basketcase '74 I'm thinking about putting the drivetrain in. The '88 is a running driveing chassis with only the firewall and dash with the gauges, steering wheel, pedals, etc still in it. It the '88 a straight swap into the '74? (after I yank the '74 "dash")

All you can do is try. If your worried about jumping into it, PM seschev3, he put a 98ish dash in his, it looked almost factory.

You will need to remove a couple clips , since the holes in the 74 dash are not all in the same locations . And , the headlight switch will need to be moved up higher , and you can cut the whole section of the 88 dash out there , and stitch it into the 74 dash .

Other than that and little hole here and there that may need made , yeah if you use every last little piece of the 88 into a bare 74 , it fits .

Me , I'd run that race dash , with some aftermarket gauges , and figure out the pinouts of the gauge cluster connector to match it :thumb:

what i was thinkin, except not using factory harness...most gauges comes w/sending unit, just wire 'em up

True , but I don't like a lot of extra wires running around under the hood . There are perfectly good factory senders and wires already ran in a nice black conduit that terminates right where the gauges go :D

true, i suppose you can do that w/factory harness connected to the aftermarket senders

i was thinkin factory sending unit wouldn't work on the aftermarket gauges

i like to have redundant gauges so i kept factory & have aftermarket and it all fit in that convaluted t ...looks factory

Everything will swap over except...like said the headlight/wiper switch. But to fix that you can get a bezel from an 80-82? When the had the wiper on the dash, but the latter dash.

I did it in my 77.

I would be swapping the entire drivetrain and pedals, booster, column, etc from the '88 into the '74. Engine, EFI, tank, TH400, 205.

Did what you want to do. Took all the running gear, dash, steering column from a 88 blazer and swapped it into a 78. Most everything swapped over real easy. All of the wiring was pretty straight forward. Had to do some splicing for the headlights because of the difference between round and square, but other than that wasn't that tough.
