Hi guys, anyone know of the alternator drive belt part number (gates, delco, dyco etc) or the measurement for the above vehicle (Too lazy to take off and measure, just wana go buy it), also can anyone post a pic or let me know how the CHEVROLET and 6.2 DIESEL badges are positioned on the the tail gate, I removed and forgot how they look when on :doah: I think the chev badge is on the rhs and the 6.2 badge on the left

Cheers

The altenator belts on my two 6.2's ('82 and '85) are 48" long,a Dayco 15480 or Gates 7480 is what mine takes....(one has A/C and the other dont, but the alt. belt is the same on both...)--yours might be different being a tad newer though....you can lok belts up online at Autozone or NAPA dot-com too!...

on my 86 chevrolet is on the right end of the band and the 6.2 diesel is above on the right as well. something like 4 inches above the band

I might add that I used a slightly thicker V - belt on my 6.2's because the ones listed seemed to ride too low in the altenator pulley and would squeal & slip like crazy after starting them for several minutes...I put a Gates "Green Stripe" belt I had from my garden tractor that is a Kevlar cord belt and is 1/2" x 48",it rides kinda high in the pulleys ,but it hasn't jumped out yet and I've redlined it several times...(I prefer to find out if it was going too in my driveway, not on the road!)...it silenced the squeals and my voltmeter reads 2 volts higher than before too..I noticed the kevlar belt doesn't flap wildly like the original did too, in between the pulleys...I had shor tbelt life with the stock sized belts,so I think I'll stick with the "oversize" kevlars on my altenator from now on..

Hey thanks heaps for that guys, I'm havin the same squealing from the alt belt so will do the same as you Diesel4me, I noticed that the belt sits real low in the pully as well and is at the max adjust, it will be winter in a few months down here so with the heater and lights going I won't be able to hear the strereo from the belt squeal, thanks again

Wanker... :haha: :haha:

Hahha, been good mate, pretty dam busy though but finally got that blazer in the pics on the road and drivin it now, with your speedo in and all yeeehaaaar, filled it up with diesel yesyerday $160 it's the 31 gallon tank, must have had 17 litres in the tank as it took 100 liters to top it off, hopefully it lasts for a year before refill hahhaa

I think our fuel cost is catching up to yours now. $1.36/litre here now :doah:

sure glad I decided now would be cool to build a big block... :haha:

Need to do all mine. Now that the weather is warming up the squeal isn't as bad but start it below 40 degrees F and it's near constant...
