I am rebuilding an 1988 K5. All sheet metal except hood and roof (incl pillars) are being replaced with aftermarket sheet metal. (LMC / Whitney/ Race)

The problem was the the floors rusted through and around the body mounts then the entire body collapsed down around the mounts.

As I try to rebuild I am unable to line up the floor framing because the firewall / dashboard is in the way. I put a level on the hood and it tilts back towards the windshield. I am using this as proof that I must raise the firewall / dashboard from below.

I am supporting the rear of the cab with pipe clamps to the frame but I do not see where I can jack up the firewall / dash so I can slide the framing under it that supports it and get the floor to line up. I am afraid to lift the rear of the cab too much because I might crack the 2 yr old windshield.

I hope I am correct that the floor and the door sills should be level, right??

Any Ideas are appreciated.

Check out this build http://www.coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194154 ryoken has replaced the entire floor and cab supports with custom made pieces. In the early stages of his build I think he has some pics of how he was supporting the "floorless" cab :D. At the very least you are sure to come away with some new ideas after looking at his stuff.

Found the answer

I finally figured it out. I jacked up the front of the truck with a short piece of 4x4 lumber on top of the jack to get it high enough.

Then I placed a pole clamp under the bottom door hinge on each side and lowered it down. It took some trial and error until I got it just above where I needed it.

It is wobbly but there is no real danger since I can only fall to the frame anyway.
