dose my88 k5 have a mechanical speedo ( i thunk it dose as it looks like a cable in behind) also i want to pull my cluster to fix the behind gauge lights and want to know just how to disconect the speedo from behind the cluster, will i screw any thing up or is it preety safe?

It's easy. Just have a spring that retains the cable in place, just have to push it out of the way and slide the cable out. It's very safe and takes about a half hour to remove the hole instermint cluster. Good luck..

It's easier to reach the cable if you unbolt the cluster from the dash, free it up as much as it will go, then go under the hood, and force a few inches of speedo cable through the firewall. That will force the cluster further away from the dash, and will just make it easier to reach in there and disconnect the cable.

No they aren't. All trucks with electric cruise (at least 1983-up), and maybe 700R4 lol, although it may not, had VSS, and all trucks with an ECM had VSS.

'90+ on R/V series is electronic, non cable driven speedometer.

Well, '88 uses VSS for the ECM, so it may or may not have had cruise.

In any case, your '88 was originally, and unless changed, is still a cable driven speedometer.
