88 pickup cab onto 85 blazer frame.

Hey guys,

Went and checked out the 68 that was a no go, I think there was more putty then metal, but the 88 I looked at is in very good condition, when looking at the mounts, it looks like it would bolt right up using the factory front and rear mounts from the blazer, too bad I removed the rear ones because I thought I would have to make a crossmember, anyway. What can you guys think of that I might run into problems with? I was thinking the wiring and dash would be the hardest part. What do you guys think?

pm member jays68yak, he put a 68 (obviously) chevy body on a later model k-5 frame. He'd be the one to talk to
 
The body should just bolt right on...but because of hte year of your k5frame you will have to build a new crossmember for the rear cab mounts.
 
Well, if i'm lucky the front mounts will be the same as a 73 and up style cab. The rear crossmember won't be a problem, if anything I can use the one from the 68 frame. but i'll prob just fab one up. we will see I suppose.
 
its shouldnt be to hard...looking at my 70s k5 frame my 84 and the 7720 frame its just a couple of rivets. drill some holes then bolt the new/old ones on.
 
When I was looking at my k5 frame, which i've been doing alot. it has two holes on each side that look like they would be where the pickup crossmember would be rivited to.
 
Well, just got off the phone with the guy, said its got some rust on it, i'm gonna go check it out asap, hes firm on 500, just not sure if I want to pay that much for it. maybe I can talk him down. wish me luck hah
 
Have a family reunion to go to today, hoping to go see it later today or tomarrow, I have enough to buy it, my main concern is what i'm going to do with everything I don't use from the 68, if its still good i'd hate to have to cut it up, but we will see what happens I suppose. heres a pic. discuss.

Man i wish you wasnt so far away. I have a RUST FREE 68 cab and front clip but its on a 1 ton cab/chassis id love to get that 2wd frame from you. But i think thats too far.

I might be doing a '69 K10 onto an '88 K5. Or '74 K10 onto '88 K6. Or a '46 Ford onto an '88 K5....you never know. I'd like to know how the body mounts line up. I'm gonna go look at it.
 
Another concern i'm worried about is the body being long enough, I want it to look factory, as this won't be much of a 4 wheeler, besides a little mud, so its going to be nice, i'm hoping the front cab mounts will be bolt on, and the front fenders will be long enough to just bolt the core support on, but we will see. I really wanted to put a hurse body on it, but I can't find one hah
 
Going to look at the 68, and a 88 4x4 today. prob will buy one or the other tomarrow. depends on condition, the 88 have a 350, ect.

Well, the 68 was a peice...putty, putty, and more putty. but the 88 on the other hand only had rust in the rockers, and a little spot on a cab corner. running 350, pretty nice and only 400. only trouble I can see would be wiring, and the dash, I have all the wiring for my blazer, what do you guys think?
 
Anyone ever seen this done? I don't recall seeing anything, I sware the body mounts look exactly the same. Wish me luck hah
 
the rad support and front cab mounts are the same. You will have to make a crossmember for the rear cab mounts.
 
When I was looking under the 1500, the rear mounts for the cab look exactly like the ones on the blazer, how it has them front and rear, I don't know if they line up, Not sure if 73 and up cabs are like that but yeah. What do you think about the wiring? the 350 is tbi, would it be hard to wire and have the dash work correctly?
