I'm thinking about picking one up to be a tow/camping rig. I'm looking at picking up a 2500 with a big block. My question is, what transmission did they put behind the big block in these? Is it a 4L80e or a 700r4? Are there any special things that I should know or be aware of on these? Any help is much appreciated.

Thank,
James

The solid axle burb stopped in 1991 then came the new body style. They never had a 700 behind a BBC and i'm fairly certain the 4L80 wasn't until later. With that being said i believe it would be a TH400.

Nope. No BB in a 4wd, unfortunately, until the newer body style. I think you could probably get a '92 BB 4x4, but, as stated, the '91 was the last of the solid front axle Burbs. It was also the first year of the 4L80E in the 2500. Previous 3/4 tons had the TH400; at least in the years your looking at.
