89 engine misses

Don't forget to check the coil, and the pickup coil in the distributor! Ignition problems will drive you crazy, I know they drove me crazy.

My problem may have been the pickup coil; cheap part, and actually pretty easy to replace. I did the ignition module at the same time, just to be sure. My truck would fire up fine cold, run for 10 minutes, and then sputter and die. Turned out it would just stop sparking; we checked with a timing light; it would flash like it should, but on sputtering it was no longer flashing.

I also had a ground problem. The PO didn't do a good job on the chassis ground; wrapped the wires together and taped them. Worked OK for a while, but got corroded and was loosing connection. Sure the engine was grounded... so that was an interesting find. A lot of problems went away upon fixing the ground to the frame!

Good luck.

There's an ohm reading for both the coil and the pickup... my Chilton's manual mentions what they should be. I'll look it up & get back to you when I can :)

Just a heads up, I am still getting code 32 but I did put the old egr valve back on thinking it was not the issue, I still have the new one and will put it back on.

I changed the ICM and all is well so far. Had the old one tested at oreillys and it failed. Replaced it and truck seems to be running good now, minus the code from the egr valve.

In case any one in the future searches and finds this post, here again were my issues

It is an 89 K5 blazer with a 350 tbi.
Had like a dead miss to it that really showed its head at cruising speeds, when OD would kick in. Almost as if the motor was shutting off and on quickly.

Things I did were replace plugs, wires, distributor, rotor, fuel filter, egr valve and tested the egr solenoid, which was good.

What fixed it was the Ignition Control Module. Might be of help to someone in the future with the same issues.
