I looked on the forum but couldn't find a darn thing about hooking up the brake controller. Plenty of talk about getting one, nothing on the best way to wire it up and what is needed to wire it up.

So I figured some one here has done it. Would be nice if the Jimmy had the stuff wired from factory like the new rigs. But I guess it just wasn't cool to have a 7 pin with controller back then.

So I was thinking about a Prodigy brake controller and a nice sealed door 7 pin in back.

Do they have any wiring adapters that will hookup the controller and then just run the power wire from the battery to the trailer? I don't know what is all involved as I haven't even looked at what wiring is involved.

Just looking for the best way to hook it up. I will be doing soldering with shrink on any connections. I don't do things half assed. I do it right the first time.

Thanks for any input, advice, or pictures ect... that might help. Now to go look at brake controllers and 7 pin connectors for the back.

When I did mine I chose to move all the wiring inside, mainly because a previous owner had cut the tail light wiring way too close to the plug. I also hate having wiring under a truck that can so easily be routed internally and less exposed to trail hazards and water. Plus the stock wiring on mine was only putting around 4-5 volts to the tail lights, now it gets a full 13.2 at the trailer plug and is easy to troubleshoot. I have one wire I need to check out, since I noticed one turn/brake light on a trailer not working when hooked to Krusty.

There are direct wiring kits available that will give you the 4 wire brake/turn, ground, and park, then you would only need to run the wire from the battery (if desired) and ensure you put a 20 amp fuse in it, and a wire from the brake controller. Across that distance use at least 10 ga wire to ensure maximum amperage to the trailer. These kits plug in to the tail light plug under the drivers side rear. Here is one that is supposed to be for your year: http://www.etrailer.com/t1-1989_Chevrolet_Blazer.htm just make sure you look at your plug first, since that may be for the S-10 and not the fullsize, that website didn't differentiate between them. I can say that the ones for the 80 Blazer like mine on that site are perfect matches for the stuff I removed when I redid mine, but just double check.

On my 89 blazer there is a Blue and Red wire that is bundled up behind the brake booster and then goes to the rear of the Blazer and once again is bundled up behind the bumper (between the fuel tank and bumper) if you remove the filler panel between the body and bumper you can easily see it there. This would be 2 of the wires for the 7 pin trailer connector.

Hmm, I'll have to check that out! Look under the dash an find those wires.

Also, I did find a kit that always me to plug in the four wire I have in the back directly into the harness, and then just run the rest of the wires. Which I already have power in the back for the stereo so I can just tap off that for the power, which should just leave the controller wiring.

I did find the Prodigy P2 controller. Looks like a decent enough controller for $99 bucks.

The wires are under the hood bundled up and sitting in a plastic wire loom holder.

Yep, I looked an nothing on mine. Which is what I figured as I had the tank off and painted the underside of the truck in the back area and taped up all the wires when I did the paint. Nothing there that I remembered. Nothing there when I checked again the other day.

Got my adapter to connect my 4 pin into a 7 pin. Rest of wiring I can run myself for the power, controller, and ground. The plug box on the back has the 7pin and the 4 pin on it. So I am good to go for either option. Now just need to find where I want to mount it in the back.

Still looking at the controllers. The P3 looks really nice, but I probably don't need that fancy of a controller, but it looks cool with the LCD display and custom LCD color control.
