hey everybody ,picked a 89 gmc for 500 bucks....guy said cam was toast but everything else looked ok.. my plan is to use it as a tow rig for my jeep and truck for my wife to drive during the winter.[I sold her grand cherokee lol ] . my plan was to get the motor running and drive it....ya right!
when i tore into the motor i found the cam was broke in two places and pulled it out.well the only thing i could salvage was the block.....i let my buddy ( who builds motors ) talk me into stroking it
. so i sent the block to get machined and started gathering parts...
my plan was to pull the interior and bed line the floor...when i pulled the seats and carpet thats when i found it....rust.
i thought it was pretty bad but after searching on this site i guess it pretty normal for these trucks...i never had intended to do a total rebuild on this truck but i got it cheap enough so what the hell... i will post up more pics when i get back in the garage. rz
