Picked up my truck a couple weeks ago as I pulled into the driveway the front tire started to loose air which I thought was leaking from the valve stem...Well no biggy replace the stem so the next day stop by the local tire store they break the bead and say did you know there is a tube in there? umm No that was from the PO...so they wont fix the tube which has a substantial cut in the tube...and they wouldn't re-seat the tire due to a bunch of puncture wounds and vulcanized patches...

So now it sitting on jacks waiting for new shoes...

Which gives me a chance to look over the under carriage and work on some minor items that need to be fixed.

But on a good note I loved driving it home and played in the snow a bit before I parked it for repairs!!!

Plans:
Shackle flip
14b/60 axel swap
Rustoleum paint job in the spring!!!
All in all a good base to start with!!!

So I decided to tear up the carpet good thing to it was like a sponge all covered in mold not to mention I found this.

The passenger side isn't to horrible but there is a crack in the passenger seat mount.

Looks like I have my work cut out for me. any sugestions for the rust repair if I dont own a welder?

Current plans scrape all loose debris and clean the tub. Cut out what I can of the damaged areas. Zinc the remaining areas and patch the areas, then cover the entire tub with fiberglass and 6oz cloth then bed line it.

Death of a K5's heart

Well this was short lived...The motor is on it last breath with a leaky rear main (about a quart every 30 miles) and the top end of the motor is quickly disintegrating also. There are no funds to repair or purchase a cheap motor to swap in...Looks like I have a nice yard ornament (Yeah Me!!!)

**** man! If you were a little closer, I got a 350 TBI coming out today, I'd gladly donate free of charge, just to get it out of my garage. ****, I'd just give you my Blazer tub too, just to be rid of it, It's in way better shape than that one.

hey

hey hook!!!

i am going through the same thing. check out HOLY RUST in the body shop area. i am slowly reworking alot of the sheetmetal with repair panels and TRustyK5 is doing a job just like it. "cept his looks better :) "

I would invest in a welder or if its not in the budget you can always get out the old fashioned pop rivet gun. and seal it up.. it can be done. but its a time consuming process.

as for the engine i have found plenty of V-8's around me in Michigan for as low as 300bucks. i wished you were a little closer to me. i have changed a couple motors in K-5's

either way you go. your inexpensive paint job looks pretty good!!! I myself am planning on putting Grizzly Grip liner on the interior and exterior of mine.

check it out at https://www.grizzlygrip.com/index.asp
i will be the test rat on this stuff... it doesnt seem like i have seen anyone here running it.

thanks for the tips the interior has been patched up already just don't have any pics showing the progress.

I went the cheap route and used a pop rivet gun with galvanized steel. After that was done I laid a single layer of 6oz fiberglass matting then "Herculiner" over the fiberglass. It's not perfect by any means.

That paint job looks pretty sweet for a budget job. But what was wrong with the yellow paint?

The color is smoke grey. There only 4 coats so far I wanted to let the paint cure before wetsanding maybe next weekend.

The yellow was hot topic. My wife couldnt stand it. Most peoples first question was are you going to paint it? I like the grey thought about painting a back stripe down the sides like the OEM paint.
