Hello K5'ers,

I'm having shift (up/down) problems (700r4)
I have a 96 350 vortec engine with the original 89 TBI setup.
I made several TV cable adjustments but not one will last/stay.
I was wondering if the ECM could be controlling the up/down shift's ?

Thanks.

Bobby

The ecm only controls ground signal to the trans for converter lock-up function. If your tv cable will not hold adjustment, then replace it with one that will. Set it to be as tight as possible at wide open throttle and you are done.

I'm waiting on a new cable the universal one that I just had kept poping off the the TV link. So I put the original back in.
This is how mine is operating.
While the original motor (350K TBI) was still in the Trans shifted fine.
I replaced the motor with the 96 vortec with TBI intake.
None of the cables were touched just moved with bracket out of the way.
Test runs normal driving the truck would surge. Like it's trying to shift up then down in overdrive.
I made adjustments to the TV Cable followed instruction and as you mentioned.
Start drive with a feather foot it shift's without a problem all gear's then if I give it more pedal (Not to downshift just before) it runs good, come to a stop it's totally screwed, from the stop engine rev's high it shift's from first to 3rd (I think or it goes from 2nd to 3rd quick) at 25mph. 25 to 65 no over drive. Come to next stop it never downshifted to 1st I have to manually downshift before taking off.
So I thought maybe the TPS ECU is/could be causing this since the new/different motor. Different speed/RPM ? idk

sounds more like a shift valve or governor sticking

Thanks Greg.
I've been debating to do transgo jr kit/corvette servo or the ECM (Having to get a custom tune chip)
To fix the problem.
I don't "Think" I burnt anything out yet. Fingers crossed.
Local trans shop quote was $1300 1yr garantee. But I wanted to check here for some good advise before dumping that money and finding out it was the brake light bulb all a long.

Something is causing those valves to stick and it is usually metal being created by the disintegration of an internal trans component or converter part. In my opinion, you may be looking at a rebuild to take care of this once and for all.

I have to agree.
I hope it'll make it thru winter.

It just seemed odd that this came up right after the swap.

Oh I did replace the filter and added 4qts fresh fluid.
Had to check TV link.
