My 89 Blazer leaks 1 quart of oil from behing the block every day. I just had the rear main replaced but the leak persists. It runs down from somewhere above the bellhousing. Any ideas on what can cause such a big leak. I noticed that the faster I drive the more it leaks. Seems like when the pressure is up the leak is worse.

Any sussgestions would be appreciated.

oil pressure sending unit, or the back of the intake gasket sprung a leak,,,i thought they quit using actual rubber gaskets on the ends in that year (just using a bead of RTV), unless someone has replaced the intake set already and they used the cheesy rubber gasket that came with the kit...

assuming the heads are factory, they should have the center bolt valve covers, they SHOULDN'T be leaking, so i would check the oil pressure switch, or the intake as i mentioned.

It still has the factory intake with the valve covers having center bolts. 1 quart a day is alot.

As mentioned, its either the intake or the oil pressure sending unit.

I would put my money on the intake. At least its easy to fix :o

alittle premature there, aren't we? :wink1: :D

how can it be a winner when the OP hasn't replied yet as to what the actual problem WAS?

I have had both, leak in the past, along with perimeter bolt valve covers too from the back....

we'll see what he says when he reports back with what was the actual problem...

i pretty much only listed what COULD be the problem, from personal experience and what is on the back of a motor than could leak, other than the rear main seal,,,which he said was already replaced.

anyhoo :D

I had the Oil Pressure Switch changed along with the Rear Main. So that's what is puzzling. However, the intake is still original gaskets an all. I put my hand behind the intake at the firewall and can away with oil on my fingers.

Sounds like it's the intake gasket. However there is another spot on the back of the motor for it to be leaking. One of the oil gallies above the cam. Very unlikely that one of the plugs would come out though. Trying to rember if the factory used threaded ones on the back or the press fit style.

I'm heading bak to Atlanta in the morning. I''l be sure to look at all the possibilites you guys have mentioned.
