I need to fix this asap. I noticed last weekend on a hunt that when I am NOT under a load (coasting down a hill) the four wheel drive slips back to 2 wheel drive. This happens both in 4H and 4L! I just had the 700R4 and the NP208 gone through. I am hoping this is just a linkage adjustment. Help me out guys.
Thanks
Larry

This usually happens when the plastic pads on the shift fork go bad.

yup, i have the same problem. Quick cheap fix: Bungee cord. More permanant fix: rebuild the case. or buy a rebuilt

Run a cable insted of linkage. Had that problem with my last k25 diesel. Now have a k5 build from the ground up. Cable is the only way not to transmit body movement through the linkage.

I also had the same problem on my 91 jimmy. It has the 241, but i imagine the linkage is the same. I solved the problem by rebuilding the t-case. But i also did readjust the linkage at the same time. Its been good ever since.

I ran mine like this for a while... when I took apart the case, the range fork was all cut up and metal fragments were everywhere. Needs new plastic pads and possibly a new fork asap.

Check linkage and TAKE THE TRANNY MOUNT OUT AND INSPECT IT. I just upgraed to a 241 from a 208 because of it popping out of 4WD high... tranny mount looked OK... untill I had it out to swap cases! Oh well.

Yeah kind of... my new shift linkage on the clocked 241 has a tiny heim joint on both ends... Unless my drivetrain shifts forward and back on the chassis pretty good (hope not), there won't be any transfer to the shifter.
