I just bought an '85 K 10 with a NP 465 tranny and a 350 engine. The clutch is too stiff and you have to push the pedal through the carpet to get it to release. I called the previous owner and he said the engine/bell housing was out of an 89 K5. I know most parts specify 85-87 year models and then up. I think the geometry is wrong with the current parts. Does anybody know what parts will interchange between an 85 and an 89? I think all that would be involved would be the master cylinder, slave cylinder, clutch fork. fork pivot ball, throwout bearing, clutch/pressure plate. I am having problems finding interchangeability between years. Thanks for any help you can give.

try to see if the fork has a crack in it. Mine was and I just picked up a new one from Napa. Not sure about the interchangeability though. Was the 85 a hydro setup also? If not the clutch/flywheel could be different I suppose:dunno:

For 85-91 square body trucks, all the clutch parts are interchangable.

Edit: 88+ new body style trucks also used hydraulic clutches but the slave is on the pass side. if your slave is on the driver side you have the correct parts.

Thanks for the replies. I just looked up all the parts and they are all the same. I have replaced all the above parts. It is way too hard to push on the clutch. I have an 85 3/4 ton with the hydro clutch and it's maybe 1/4th the effort to push. It also releases a couple inchers off the floor. The previous owner had shimmed the master cylinder rod with a 3/16 socket to make it longer so that it would release. Any ideas?

Maybe check the pedal assy to make sire its correct, there should not be any need for a shim.

I agree. Sounds to me like something's binding. And with you saying you just replaced everything else I'd look more into the pedal assembly.
