89 tbi running rich

Need more info.

Why do you say it is running rich? Belching black smoke? Sluggish? Milage went away? Not that they are ever great.

Is the engine stock? How wore out is it? How long has it been doing it? Did the rebuild happen because of the rich issue? Or the opposite?

No smoke, not sluggish, stock engine some TB mods, cfm spacer, injectors,kn filter, flowmaster exhaust. I can smell it at the exhaust pipe that's really the only symptom. Engine has 108.000. On it. Thx. Btw ktmoutfront I saw a vid of your blazer last year climbing a rutted hill that was awesome. Since then I've been looking for pics of your suspension set up but can't find any. Your k5 rocks. I want to do mine like yours.

You need to scan it to see what stuff is doing.

It could easily be your coolant temp sensor, mine works intermittently

Thanks, yeah I've been wanting to get a scanner. I guess this is a good excuse. What kind do you recommend as I'm not throwing any codes.

The real deal scanners are like 5k. My dad runs a tranny and 4wd shop for mall crawler "mature adults" {people that dont mud and tear stuff up} and they are EXPENSIVE. His is a Snap-On. Anyways you can jump the A and B terminals on the ALDL OBD1 plug by the ebrake pedal and the Check Engine light will blink, like Morse code, a pattern. The pattern is your code. If you have one of them cheap manuals from Autozone or Advanced Auto it explains this very well, and has the patterns and corresponding codes graphed out for you. Just because the light isnt on doesnt mean there isnt codes stored in the memory of the computer. Did you maybe install the incorrect injectors or is it possible they are leaking past the O-rings in the injector bore and dripping fuel into the intake. Check the spray pattern with a flashlight in dim light to see if its a conical shape or just drippin and splattering all over the place. That would be a good start, make sure no wires are unplugged and your plugs and plug wires are all in good shape. Coolant temp sensor is a good start as well

If it just smells rich, you cat. converter is toast. Or not on it. Not saying mine smells rich all the time.

Look at the link in my sigmature for a few pictures.
