89 V2500 Burb- Camping rig

Ill take some pictures of how it is set up now. Im reading up on how I should have it setup and it seems like I have it wrong. I might have parts laying around to make it work better atleast.
So the sway bar is in the way of the crossover drag link? I guess so now that im picturing it in my head. How does a rear sway bar work in comparison?

I don't know anyone running a rear bar on a k5 or older suburban like ours. I used to daily drive my suburban on 4" springs, 36" TSLs and no sway bar. Granted my pro-comp springs are stiff but it was easy to drive. Unbolt your sway bar and drive it around for a week and see what you think.

One fella on here did an aftermarket front sway bar that seemed to work out pretty good for him. A rear sway bar with no front doesn't seem like fun. But like muddy, I used to run all my stuff without a front sway bar. It would be worth trying it out I suppose.

Thanks for the info guys. Im supposed to get my motor next weekend, so I wont have any bump steer issues for a little while. After I get the motor in I am planninning on swapping my front springs for something better. Right now I still have my old 2.5" cheap lift springs I got in high school and a 1" zero rate in there. Once I get my final spring height done I will address the steering. Ill probably go with cross over. I need to stay focused on the motor swap right now. Although yesterday I did go order some steel for a rear bumper and tire gate ha ha.

Go with an aftermarket crossmember while you've got the engine out. Steering will clear much easier. TNA makes a really nice one.

Yep, got one sittin in my office right now. Actually darren sent me out one but then called me to check if I was going to ever do cross over and I said I probably would in the future. So he said that he accidentally sent me the old version of his cross member and that I can just keep it as a conversation piece and he is sending out the new version. I was pretty impressed by that... thats very good customer service.

He's already got one bubba!

You know what i find funny....
Some of us have been on this site forever and i can remember when we were all swapping in TBI/TPI setups....times do change...lol.
Going with BD myself. Just got to get 30 days of work under my belt before i pull the trigger....

Yeah that is funny. I always had plans of rebuilding the stock 350 but now it just makes more sense to me to swap it out for something more modern.
Why the 30 days? funding or new job or something?
What motor are you looking to get from BD?

Same here! My big plans for my burb was for a tuned port 383. Now, there is no way it would do that over a vortec motor.

Well I was planning on picking up my motor this weekend but I got an email from BD saying there was a little mix up so it wont be ready until next week... bummer.
I was hoping to maybe get some other odds and ends done this weekend instead like my door seals and front speakers but we are actually getting some rain and snow here in CA so I think I have to go skiing instead. So there wont be any progress to report, but i will hopefully have a run video of my motor soon.

Oh darn, you HAVE to go skiing. Haha. Have fun, don't break your leg. One legged engine swaps can't be fun.

Subscribed!!!!
I was talking to the wife the other day and threw out the idea of putting a newer big block in my junk for "drive-ability" purposes. She followed up with a surprisingly short list of things it would take for her to use it as the daily driver.

Long story short if I could get her in it daily I could get rid of a $500 plus monthly payment and the full coverage on a pricey car.

I think your plans here would work for me and make all involved happy so I am gonna watch this closely.

A little update... I got confirmation that I will be picking up my motor on Saturday! Saweet! (hopefully I don't lose all my money at the casino before I get it!)
And now questions for anyone that may be seeing this...
I have gone through lots and lots of threads about LS truck motor swaps and I know I will need to relocate the AC compressor. Im wondering what relocation bracket people have used. I see one by Dirty Dingo, Kwik Performance, LS brackets, and others. Has anyone installed one? Have any thoughts on them? Im also trying to decide whether I should use a bracket that switches to the Sanden style, keeps my stock 89 unit, or uses the 6.0 Compressor?:dunno:

I think I'm going to use the dirty dingo mount for the sanden compressor that came on my 5.3. Haven't seen one in person though
