Since my truck is in a million pieces I was wondering if anyone can confirm the 89 sb v3500 has a reverse rotation waterpump.. I believe it does but I cant remember

thanks

Should be conventional rotation. My '91 V3500 was. Pump turns same direction as crank.

Reverse rotation pump got used with trucks that had a single serpentine belt and belt tensioner. Pump turns opposite direction as crank.

Which body style?

FWIW, my 91 V3500 has a standard rotation water pump. If I remember correctly, the original motor in my 91 K5 had a serpentine belt set up with a reverse water pump.

Sorry, mine is a new body style with IFS... It's technically a heavy half.

my 89 3500 crew cab old body style has single sepr belt and is rev. rot. water pump.:)

Regardless of year, if it has V belts it is standard rotation, if it has a single serpentine belt it is reverse rotation. :deal:

It would be interesting to know why trucks of the same body style and similar years have different belt configurations.

Engine size may be a factor?

My '91 V3500 (350 TBI) had one v-belt and one multi-groove (serpentine) belt. Conventional rotation water pump.

EDIT: No smog pump, or AC either.

My 91 crew cab is set up the same as yours with the "v" and multi groove belts (with a/c, no smog) but my 91 K5 originally had a 350 with the serp system (with a/c, can't remember if it had a smog pump).

Maybe a smog pump is the difference?

ditto for me... with a/c.... multi groove and 1 v belt

about this time in production gm was thrwoing anything lft over from the gen 2 production run into the mix....
1/2 metric 1/2 standard

thanks everyone
