Damn, that's a big'un for sure :eek1:

Wouldn't make it 10' into a trail here though, rocks and trees keep it pretty tight.

What's the wheelbase on that thing, 200"?

haha tree's? that thing would just run them over.....and forget about turning around on a gravel raod or any road for that mattter

i forget what they are called, but you can buy them. i saw one online the other day for like $80,000 or something. would be a badass tow rig thats for sure!

It's the army's newest heavy transporter called the HEMTT. They are pretty beastly trucks if I must say so myself.

yeah thats a hemtt(spelling) a detroit 92 i beleive, its a turbo supercharged engine. yes it has a roots style seper charger and a turbo on it, they make something like 500hp but they are truned way down.
i knwo cause i work on them all the time in the army. they ar bad*ss too

Wow, the generator we have here at work is twin 8v-92's, mounted in series. I can't imagine what the load must be on it if a single engine can move that thing.

theres large outboard planetaries at every wheel. a fat hamster on a wheel could power that thing. anything over and above is gravy/

I totally lied to you guys sorry. they're not planetary diffs. those are just the drive flanges on the axleshafts. I looked it closer when it got into the shop. it was better than -38c that day it showed up. I'm just a sucker for big ugly stuff.

so little more info its a 1988 Oshkosh,

So what you are saying is, it needs that powerhouse under the hood? Just giving you a hard time, looks like a cool setup, but way too massive to run on any trails around here.

offroad/soft ground load capacity is 12 1/2tons. I guess theres a forestry co that uses it to run supplies into logging camps.

I can say honestly it would be very weird driving that thing, what with hanging out so far in front of the steering wheels. I can see that it would be very useful for the intended purpose.

no of course its not a trail runner. but its much like those Tatra turbo diesel 8x8s they do trials with in eastern europe. watch some of those trials vids on youtube. wow what those trucks can really do.

you see in the last pic I put up in the cab. thats a window inthe floor under the drivers left foot. so when you're nose up a guy can still see a little.

heres the exact same Oshkosh truck ecxept 10x10 with the rolloff bed - off

I have watched a lot of those trials, and those guys are just plain nuts. They are amazing vehicles though, not many vehicles with that kind of capability.

for the mud guys...........
