well my buddy bought one today. holy moly. i just tapped the gas and i was going sideways down the street. wish i had one now!!

iirc, the hp and torque #'s got pretty pathetic for a BB in those days.. but it is still a BB... :D

this thing has to be worked. it was a bit scary for me since i have never been behind the wheel of somthing like that.

he older 454 SS 1/2-ton Super Sport truck produced 255 hp at 4,000 rpm and some stump-pulling 405 lb-ft of torque at 2,400 rpm.

Better numbers than I remembered.

190HP rings a bell, I'll look around.
yea GM was funny about HP ratings, it may be rated at 190 HP, but thats not peak HP.

ive never ridden in a 454 power truck, but i have seen them, they are FAST

Ive ridden in them, and while they are quick, they are by no means fast.

well like i said. this must have some work done to it. definitely threw me to the back of the seat

255 rings a bell for me too. The TBI 350 that year was rated at 210, so 190 is definitely wrong.

Fun yes...fast, not really. I recall a 454 SS getting worked over pretty good by Sport truck mag in the early 90's. They swapped in a warmed over 502, and the best numbers they got out of that thing were low 13's. Fun, but not fast especially compared to some of the cars you can buy of the showroom floor right now.

Maybe if it was all wheel drive the numbers would look a lot better. From what I remember of the article the biggest problem they had was getting any sort of meaningful traction. Had no trouble liquifying the tires for blocks at a time.

Thus why after school I want to tub a NBS Chevy and a more than warmed over Big Block :D

Warmed over was a fair understatement...it was making somewhere north of 500 hp. The new Silerado SS is about as quick and it has about 200 hp less, but it is AWD.

awd can do wonders for acceleration, but wheres the fun if you cant roast the tires?

i think this guys truck is the best of both worlds. switch it to 4wd for awesome acceleration, or turn the dial and burn the baloneys. cant get any better than that.

now back on topic, even at stock ratings, the 454ss is gonna "feel" fast. its the torque that throws you into the seat, not hp. and 400+ at 2400rpm? that'll push u into the seat for sure. not to mention getting you sideways in no time. what did he pay for it?

low 13's for that project truck is pretty good. you cant really compare a 2wd truck to an awd truck or sports car. unless you completly change the suspension it wont launch for nothing. and even then there is no weight back there.
