Hi all,

Over the past year or so It’s been becoming more and more difficult to close the drivers door without slamming it two to three time before it will properly close. I’ve also noticed that the top of the “door striker bolt” has some wear marks on it. I’m wondering if the door striker bolt has come out of alignment and needs to be adjusted. I attempted to remove the drivers bold but all I ended up doing was stripping the hex bolt. I’m just thinking about replacing both bolts with new ones and I was wondering on how to properly remove them.

Thanks in advance

Dan..

i'D BE WILLING TO BET THAT THE HINGE PIN BUSHINGS ARE WORN OUT .

GET NEW ONES @ THE DEALER OR YOUR FAVORTE PARTS HELP SHELF.
OPEN DOOR ALL THE WAY.
USE SUPPORTS TO SUPPORT END OF DOOR.
POP HINGE PIN OUT USING HAMMER AND PUNCHES AND PRY STICK.
USE HAMMER TO REMOVE OLD BUSHINGS.
REPLACE OLD BUSHINGS, USING HAMMER TO SEAT FULLY.
ONLY REMOVE ONE HINGE PIN AT A TIME, SAVES REALIGNMENT TIME!
REINSTALL HINGE PIN.
READJUST STRIKER BOLT IF NECESSARY.:D

One last thing. There is supposed to be a nylon roller on the striker bolt. With the nylon roller there even a door with crap hinges will latch reasonably good. Prolly a GM dealer part..but well worth replacing.

It is probably the hinge pin bushing, you can buy new pins and bushings for like $20.
BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, follow the other guys advice of doing it on the truck, don't go and loosen and remove the hinge mounting bolts, those doors are a PAIN to align correctly, and if you loosen the hinge bolts, your in for a day job getting them back in correct alignment.
