90 f150 “Old Man Ford”

Ban stick for the journey reference

Makes clicking noises like a broken sun ring. Does it in park. Probably the pump
So a used one is probably not a good route then, if this was low mileage and failed. Maybe you can find a carry out a a local shop? Otherwise the cost is probably too high, right?

They can be fixed/upgraded aftermarket. Ford moved on to a new transmission instead of continuing to work on it like GM did.

$1500 is the lowest I’ve found
And what is the warranty on the lowest priced one? Will you be in the same situation in 6.5 months?
That doesn't seem really high priced after buying all of the parts for my 4L80E. I did do convertor, shift kit, a few hard parts, internal solenoids, frictions, steels, bushings, manifold pressure switch, but it didn't need a pump. I know that isn't quite apples to apples.
Are we finding out why there aren't more of these trucks still on the road? Would that be a $2500 job with R&R for most people? So a truck that isn't in as good of shape as this one, possibly wouldn't get fixed?

For sure there’s something out there I can swap in while I rebuild this one. Truck is good enough to keep, but if I put $2k in it, it not worth selling either. That was actually what was going to happen before it crapped. Had a buyer

This is not helpful information
My friend was grabbing any one he found used and low mileage for under $300, and kept swapping them.
He tried one rebuild for $1500 and it lasted a whole year before failing again.
He got rid of all his fords since, not sure if he has any transmission left.

Geez guy it's a Ford, zfs542 or an np435 or stock F150 would be an M5R2 learn your stuff. Lol.
But why would I need to know about that Luke! :D

All kidding aside Fords are cool. I just don’t know anything about them.

And actually just what you said is the one thing I don’t like about Ford. My first real job was at a Ford dealership in 1987 How is it the every Engine has different hoses than the next engine… would love to be the parts guy at Ford! Nothing is interchangeable.
