After firing up the search feature, still have quick question. '90 K5 with serp. belt.

There is a hex fitting on the pulley shaft. I couldn't come away knowing whether this is a bolt that needs to be removed prior to using the puller tool. Got the impression that it might be part of the shaft itself, and pulley is 100% press-on. Conversely, I can't see how the installer tool wouldn't need something to thread into so as to push the pulley back on...

Thanks much!

The pulley is pressed on. Iirc, AutoZone rents a puller to take it off and you can reinstall it using a long bolt, nut and thick washer (the center of the shaft is threaded). Put the pulley against the shaft, with the nut & washer already on the bolt, thread the bolt into the shaft and then screw the nut down (washer against the pulley) pushing the pulley on.

I think the hex in the end of the shaft has something to do with pump assembly at the plant.

Yep, you are correct on the center-of-the-shaft-being-threaded.

I added a flashlight to my mirror inspection, and could then see properly past/inside the hex-end.

Thanks a ton for the response.
