I've been fighting with this for days now. I need some input. I already had a post up but figured I would do one that is updated. Here is what's up.

90 K5 TBI 350. I swapped a used crate engine in. It ran awsome in the Burb I pulled it from. When I dropped it in the K5 I deleted the heater, AC, and cruise control. I removed everything and left only the engine wires in. I put on a new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, headers and 2.5" duals with no cats. It also got a new gas tank, pump, and filter. It runs good except when you put it in gear it stalls. If you give it gas you can keep it running though. I have replaced or changed since this started the fuel pump, filter, IAC, Computer, checked the TPS, timing, cap, and rotor. I put 3 different TBI units on with the same results. No matter what I do or change it does the same thing, start it up and it will idle all day, put it in gear and it stalls. Is it possible that it is the MAP sensor, pick up coil, or egr causing this? Everybody I talk to is pretty much clueless. It is not storing any codes either. I want ot wheel this on Sat. so I have 1 day left to figure this out so any help is appreciated!!!

All I can think of is the EGR/EGR solenoid or the Distributor module.
EGR should be fully closed at idle. Sometimes they get carboned up. Pull it off and clean it.
Try unplugging the vac line to the EGr and see if the problem goes away.
You can also try the same thing with the MAp sensor.

Is it the rig in your sig with a TH400 trans or does it have a 700R4? If it is a 700R4 it could be the TCC solenoid causing your problem. Basically it will idle perfectly but once you put it in gear it's like stopping a rig with a stick and not pushing in the clutch pedal (naturally it will die).

I've replaced the ign modual and unhooked the egr and neither made any change. It does need the map though. I am going to swap the map and see if it helps. If not the only 2 things left are the dizzy and the EGR. Like mentioned though I unhooked the EGR and plugged the lines to it and also the inlet to the tbi unit with no change.

Do you have access to a scanner that you can see the engine data with?

I should have said in my eariler post to unplug the electrical connection from the MAP. To see if the problem goes away. Un plugging the MAP puts the ECM in limp home mode. If the problem goes away then usually the MAP is suspect.

Well, I figured it out. It was a bent dizzy shaft. I'm not sure how it got bent. I didn't pull the engine and I could have did it during the install and just never noticed. It runs great and we wheeled the snot out of it today. :D Thanks everybody for the help.

How did you come to find that? What made you think/decide to pull the dizzy?

Congrats on getting it running, I'm just curious what led to looking at the dizzy shaft
