Well I just got the official news today and looks like this thing will get to be built on Xtreme Offroad by Ian Johnson. I am selling it to the studio and keeping all the stuff that I want off it (pretty much everything except for the frame and body). I believe the plan is to back half and boat side the burb and make it into a truggy. Not sure if it will get a full tube bed or just a buggy style rear end but it should be getting a big block chevy gasser, 4l80 auto, divorced 205, dana 80s w/ portal boxes, & 46" Baja Claws on 20" beadlocks. Of course all that is subject to change. Anyway, I hope you guys all support the build and the show by watching the 2016 season of Xtreme Offroad. I will try to update this thread as Ian shares real-time photos of the build progress.

Here is what I am envisioning but I am sure Ian will exceed expectations.

Cool. Only thing better would be if they built the rig and gave it back to you after they got done.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. They always sell the projects off after they are done building them but they do sell them pretty cheap compared to what they have in them. For example, they had ~$80,000 of parts in their rock bouncer Raging Bull and sold it for around $40,000. Now a lot of that was company-donated parts for advertising but still, someone got a heck of a deal. Not sure what this Suburban will fetch when it is done but I would guess ~$20k or more if he does the portal boxes.

Should be dropping this off at the studio some time this week coming up. Started stripping parts off at the house that aren't needed to drive it up there. Pulled all the body armor tonight. Will be pulling the roof rack, hitch, shocks, & front driveshaft tomorrow. Rest will have to be pulled at the studio. Took the wheels and tires off to sell and put my Driveway Rescue wheels and tires on as rollers. Pics are from yesterday.

They're not really getting much after you strip it, are they?

Just what they really need: frame, body, steering column, dash, wiring, etc. On the show it will get a new engine, tranny, transfer case, axles, suspension, cage, seats, full hydro steering, etc. Still don't know what Ian's exact intended purpose is going to be i.e. rocks, mud, sand, etc. I think it would be pretty cool for him to take it up north and do some snow wheeling in it. With a BBC engine, 46" tires, and portal axles it would be a blast in some deep powder and would be something different than what they normally do. Don't think I've ever seen them do a snow run yet.

It has begun . . .

Hell yeah and it's about time!!!
I like Ian, seems like a fun guy to hang with...I've been watching this show all the way back when it was just "Trucks!". Hell, I was watching "Truckin USA" with Ed Bruce and "Shade Ttree Mechanic" when they were the only shows like that.

Those shows really accelerated my learning curve on EFI and the other things and quirks a good mech should know.

I watched Ed Bruce's "Truckin' USA and "Shade Tree Mechanic" on TNN back in the 90's too...:D

I actually met Sam and Dave from Shade Tree show,at Fan Fair in Nashville in 1995 (I think)...have a photo of it somewhere...they had a TNN booth and both of them were there signing autographs..

Sam is a huge Suzy Bogguss fan as am I..we talked about her when I met them, and Sam was pretty pumped to hear she was at her booth there also, just a building away--said he was anxious to go meet her..on one of the episodes of the show, they showed Sam playing his "coveted" Suzy Bogguss CD in one of the new stereo systems they installed in a vehicle, and he mentioned how much he loved her voice..

I've also met Robin Lee ,who sang "Black Velvet" (country cover of the Alana Myles hit)...she is now married to Trey Bruce, who is Ed Bruce's son...

He must just be mocking up the wheels and tires to see what ride height he wants and body modification needed. Those axles in the pic are going under my Raider and Ian is putting some Axletech portal axles in their place. He told me he is probably going to keep it leaf sprung which caught me off guard. I was expecting some ORI's or coilovers with 4 links but evidently that is not in the cards.

Hell, with the shows budget he oughta have Alcan make them....
