I need to know what install kit I would need to properly install a stereo in my 90 suburban. Years ago I ditched the original and made a steel plate that I glued to the dash bezel. I want to get rid of that and do an install as if it were done at a good stereo shop.

I have been looking at the metra install kits. I see the kits that mount the stereo, but I'm not making sense of what bracket kit, if any, I will need. Its confusing. Since the original stereo and any original brackets were gone long ago, what kit or kits will I need?

The wiring portion Ihhave under control.

all youll need is the hole you put the radio through. the radio will have the metal sleeve that it slides into and that will hold up the radio fine.. if you do want more bracing its easy in a square body to run a metal bracket (any 6-8" long thin piece of metal) from the center bolt hole in the back of the deck down to the bottom edge of the dash

I'm just not picturing in my mind how the hell the brackets work. Does it require drilling holes or something?

Sorry to dig this up (I'm actually looking for your 5.3 swap thread lol), but I did a nice clean stereo install in my 90 burb.

I got a Kenwood xdc-300 series from Crutchfield, and they included mounting brackets for free, which work very well. Just one minor adjustment.

I tossed their wiring harness and ran brand new wiring all the way to each brand new speaker I put it, and hid them all along the original wire routes so no one sees them. I can add pics if you'd like! (And if I can since I'm a newbie member)

It came with a remote and boy am I happy with it, I even installed a kicker all in one subwoofer in the back across from the spare. Ran and hid all those wires too.

If you havent gotten to your stereo yet, I am more than happy to help!
