******EDIT*****

i cant get the truck to start at all now, i verified it has fuel(had buddy crank it while i saw injectors were firing) and it does have spark..... i had it hooked up to my duramax for about 30 min yesterday trying to figure it out. it keeps draining the battery trying to start for so long.....

any ideas????

well, my mud truck that im building on 44's hasn't moved on it's own in about two months...when i bought the truck, i installed a new alternator and a brand new battery in the truck, because they were both fubar'd....the truck has the original 350TBI with 220k miles on her....

i try to start it every other day or so to make sure nothing is nesting up in it and trying to make a new home(lots of creepy crawlers and critters where i live)

sometimes it starts, and sometimes it just turns over and over and over until the battery dies. then i jump it a few days later and it seems fine.

it's really 50/50 whether it will start or not, and that's not gonna work at the mud boggs. cant have a nice big truck that wont even start. haha...

oh yeah, sometimes i can smell gas when it just cranks and cranks and cranks.... only sometimes though...

thanks guys

I'm gonna say fuel pump. My '90 Suburban has the same problem. Just not crazy about dropping a half full 40 gallon tank.

It's a long shot but,I seen modulators go bad.
Most of the time, they just die right away. Sometimes they are speratic, working then not .

I would say fuel pump. I believe that it needs a certain amount of pressure before it will start. My 2000 sub has lower than norm fuel pressure and when it gets cold out (below 15 degrees) it will not start no matter what. It will crank and crank, you can smell gas, but it will not fire until it the temp warms up outside.

Have you tried starting fluid? If it will run on starting fluid then you have a bad fuel pump or relay. If it won't start on starting fluid then maybe the module in the distributor is bad.

Unhook the fuel filter and crank it over to see if fuel shoots out. Could be a bad filter, IAC, or fuel pump.....
