90's 14 bolt sf into K5?

There are a million 14 bolts for cheap out there from 90's pickups and 'burbans. I assume they are semi float because they are 9.5"? Would one of these bolt right into my K5 or would I have to relocate the perches, shock mounts, etc? I'm sure it would be a plenty strong rear since I will only be running 35's with a 6.2 and a turbo.
 
Some will some wont. Are you looking for a 6 lug version or 8? What I did was grabbed an 8 lug version with 4.10's out of a suburban, then grabbed some 6 lug axle shafts out of a 6 lug 14B SF and swapped them into the 4.10 geared axle that came out of the suburban. The issue you will run into is that the axles with 6 lugs, as far as I know, all have different spring perches than your K5. Also I couldn't find any with a 4.10 ratio, and that's what I wanted for my 6.2 diesel. The 6 lug shafts ended up being slightly longer than the 8 lug shafts, but since I was doing a disc brake swap it didn't really matter, I just added some spacers. I paid all of $50 for the 4.10 rear axle, and it came with a posi in it. Look around, they are everywhere.
 
On a side note, I was running the 4.10 ratio with 35's and a 700r4 behind my military 6.2 diesel. It wasn't bad, but when I stepped up to 4.56's my life got a lot better.
 
I wanted to go with 6 lug, but if the 8 lugs fit better, then I might have to do that.
What about an adapter from 8 lug to 6? Are those things safe? They look kinda scary to me, but maybe I am just being paranoid.
 
Only a rear axle from a 4WD 3/4 ton Suburban 73-91 or pickup 73-87, will drop into your Blazer. This is true for both 14 bolt FF and SF.

2WD rear axles have different shock mounting, IIRC.

Newer trucks (92+ Burbs or 88+ pickups) have different spring perches.

All of the axles that bolt up are 8-lug, so to get 6 lug you'll have to get a newer axle and do surgery on it. Doesn't seem worth it to me.

Shock mounts are easy to move. Dont over complicate this. Grab a semi float rear end out of a suburban, if you want to keep your six lug bolt pattern, then go to a junkyard and find some 6 lug semifloat axle shafts. They are stupid easy to swap, its a simple C clip. Just pop the differential cover, pull the C clip, remove axle, replace. As i stated before the 6 lug axles will probably be a little bit longer, so if you are going to go that route, get a disc brake conversion, and just add a spacer. Its not difficult, anyone with basic mechanical knowhow can do this.
 
I intend to do this swap this summer in my Jimmy.

Relocating spring perches is simple. When I do shocks I am going to get some long travel and inboard them, so that doesn't matter much for me.

I don't know if brake lines hook up.

From what I have read get one from a 4 wd, the 2wd ones are narrower. Half of the reason for my swap is to make the rear wider. I don't like the look of the narrower rear end.

Plus I want to stay 6 lug and I will have to reagear it to 4.56 anyway so gears are not that important
 
I have a 6 lug 93 14bsf that I'm putting into my 91 K5. I cut off the spring perches and shock mounts, waiting now for the new ones to show up. If you have access to a welder and a grinder its not that hard of a swap.
 
I see this question pop up all the time. Here is my advice:

Check my build thread in my sig and/or ask away. I did this in August 2010. You can use your current U-joint with your 14bsf, just swap the yoke from your 10b to the 14bsf. I did a disk brake conversion so I don't know about the e-brakes. I used the Ruff Stuff simple swap brackets. You have to burn off the old spring pads, bumpstop pads, and shock tabs on the 14bsf and weld in the new spring pads/shock tabs. I have the DIY shock inboarding kit and my axle side shock mounting is different. So when I ordered the simple swap, I called Ruff Stuff and they took the shock tabs off of my order and like $16-20.

If its a 6-lug from the early 90's trucks, the wms is almost exactly the same as the front, so your front and rear track widths will match. I forgot to get the measurement when I had my wheels off.
