Thinking of buying a 4 door 91 truck 4x4 1 ton with bad 4 speed auto trans hooked to a 205 is this a 400 trans?

Not sure. I know a guy here in Denver that used to have his own business building transmissions, now works at a Chevy dealer, and he would rebuild mine on the side for about $1000.00 with a 1 year warranty.

A friend paid $2,600 for a new 4L80E from GM installed. You could probably get it rebuilt for around $2K installed.

Around here a 4L80E rebuild goes for $1700.00 or so if all the usual hard parts are in good working order.

Should be the 4L80 transmission, 4 speed w/OD based off of the TH400.

91 should be the old body style still if its a 4 door. 91 duallys had the option of a 4L80E?

Yep, 1991 was the first year for the 4L80E. The gas engine ECMs controlled them and when behind the 6.2 it has it's own stand alone ECM, which is very desirable. IIRC of course.

Not only the duallies had the 4L80E, all 1 ton pickups (and I would assume all 3/4 ton pickups, but they're IFS at this point so we dont care) as well as some 3/4 ton suburbans. I think the people on this site own every 91 3/4 ton 4x4 burban in the country though lol. I'm one of them /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif. The 4L80E is the best tranny GM has ever made, I would highly recomend picking one up if you have the means /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

Remember the 87-91 1-ton crew cab still had the D60 and the old body style.
